yep another silly question I guess but am about to get some USA money from my bank and want to order some smaller bills so I have money for tips etc. have order $2, $5, $10 and $20.

I have been googling trying to find out if $1 is a coin or a note. found comments about them thinking of changing it to a coin but have they done it? is the $1 or coin or note?

The $1 is typically a note but has also been in coin form in the U.S for many, many years.

Of course you should get the $1 notes because who wants to carry around a bunch of coins? Lol.

I'd also add that all denominations of US Dollars are the same size and very similar in appearance for tourists who are not familiar with them.

Unlike UK banknotes, unsure what it's like in Australia, it's easy to get confused particularly if your in a hurry and you wouldn't be the first to give a generous tip by handing over 2 x $10 rather than 2 x $1.

I always keep my low value notes ($1 and $5) separate from the higher values.

It's good to have a few small bills for tips on the way to the hotel, but every casino has multiple bill-breaker machines so you can get more small bills any time you need them.

$2 bills are rarely used, and will be remembered. Many feel that giving a CW a $2 bill will get them better service than giving the same waitress two $1 bills.

If the notes you got are new and stick together stack them 1 face up and 1 face down in your wallet. It's easier to grab just one that way.

Like others have said it is a note and all notes are the same in size and colour...perhaps put some $1 bills in another area so you can quickly access them for a tip

BTW the AUD$ is the same as the UK varying in size and colour...with a coating that I think is waterproof.
