One Day From NYC - No Car

I'll be taking a day trip out of NYC and will be heading to Hudson Valley, in mid-November. Can you tell me what's the best way to take in this beautiful town in the easiest way (possible to walk)? It me and my adult son and we are open to anything, just want to take in as many sights as we can in a day. No rush. I love quaint towns and would like to see the 'central' of Hudson too as it is always the most bustling part.

Thanks for your help, as always :)

Are you wanting to go to Hudson Valley or the city Hudson, NY? They are two different places. If Hudson, NY then you can take the Amtrak directly to the city and walk to all the restaurants etc on the main street.

If you specifically want to go to the town of Hudson Amtrak is the only train that serves it and advance tickets are recommended. https://www.amtrak.com/home (Tickets are cheaper a couple weeks in advance.)

If you want to see some of the other cute towns a bit farther south in the Hudson Valley (Poughkeepsie, Beacon, Cold Spring, etc.) they are served by the Metro North commuter trains which offer less expensive tickets and do not require advance purchases so you can have a more flexible itinerary.. http://web.mta.info/mnr/html/mnrmap.htm

For the towns mentioned, both train services use the tracks right along the Hudson River which is a very scenic ride. Sit on the left of the northbound train for the best views.

You want to go to the Dover Stone Church! Take Metro North to Dover Plains. The Stone Church cannot be more than a 10 min. walk from the train station. There is a beautiful cave with a possible waterfall. There are also several hiking trails. This video can give you a taste of what you will see there:
