Beach parking permit necessary?

We're renting a condo in Montauk in July. If we don't have a beach parking permit, will we still be able to drive to beaches on the ocean or bays? I can't find clarification on town websites. Thanks.

Well Montauk is easier than some places. If you can find parking, it is only a block or two walk to the beach. Just read signs very closely for parking rules. I have parked behind Whites Drug Store and walked to the beach without any problem at all. However, some beaches, Such as Ditch Plains, you must be a resident to park in their parking lots and the police are vigilant about checking for permits. You could apply for a visitors pass but that will cost a few hundred dollars.

You should ask the owners of the condo about this. They may be able to get you a pass. If the condo isn't that far from the beach you could walk or bike.

Apparently the Kirk Park Beach lot near the IGA will not require a permit this year. This per the East Hampton Star.
