finding lodging proving challenging

We are invited to a cousin's wedding in Aquebogue and need lodging for Sept 7 and 8. The hotels recommended in Riverhead have no vacancy as well as apparently every other lodging in Riverhead and Aquebogue. We can rent a car and drive some distance but I am quite disoriented trying to figure this out from Seattle. I am confused by hamlet vs town, etc. We must be in Riverhead no later than 5 pm, in order to catch a shuttle. It would be fun to also stay somewhere at a distance and take the Long Island Expressway, if we can get to Riverhead that way, and the timing works. We've never been to Long Island. Please advise if you will. Thank you!!!!!

Not sure where you are coming from but here are a few options:

Hampton Garden Inn-Stonybrook; about 20-25 minutes from Riverhead

HGI-Islip/MacArthur airport; about 1/2 hour

Hampton Inn Islandia-about 1/2 hour to Riverhead. I have actually stayed at this hotel and traveled to Riverhead. Easy on/off LIE. Was a decent Hampton Inn.

That problem on LI is that the vast majority of hotels are in Nassau County, closer to NYC/JFK.

The further east, the fewer the hotel options.

In addition to weddings, there is a pretty large Baseball Tournament at Baseball Heaven that weekend impacting hotel availability.

You also may want to put your dates into a search engine like Kayak and see what comes up. If unsure of location, post here for advice.

Where is the shuttle going to take you? Will you have a rental car? How many are you? Do you have a hotel budget over which you will not go?

Duh, probably to Aquebogue. If you,re going to have a car and don,t mind not using the shuttle, there are places to stay in Jamesport, Mattituck and even Greenport that are far prettier than staying in Riverhead. Jedediah Hawkins Inn is a lovely historic inn in Jamesport but not cheap. You might also find some airbnb's in those areas.

I would also check homeaway, flipkey, vrbo, and other websites to locate rentals.
