Gran Bahia Principe Coba vs Mazatlan- riu emerald bay

i need help deciding which place to go, as i have never been to Mexico and plan to go for the First week of may. Any tips, pro and cons (excursions, beach) and weather during that time. These were two resorts that we found.

Any info would be helpful thanks.

Wow - two separate coasts

Weather on the Maz. site (Pacific ocean) is much drier but the water is terrible

Weather on the Bahia site (Carabbean) is much more humid, has more rain/cloud but the beaches/water is too dream of

Note: The Coba section is not waterfront (10 15 minutes walking)

Have been to both. Riu Emerald Bay is a small resort, all ocean front rooms with balconies. Beach is nice to walk on, but of course the Pacific side so a little rougher. They surf just up the beach a ways. Cheap to go into Mazatlan and only about 15 minutes. Did zip lining and the City tour. Weather in May will be just fine.

Gran Bahia Principe Coba is part of a HUGE complex which includes the Akumal and Tulum section. You are way down by Tulum, nice beaches, and great weather in May. We are going back to the Coba in 3 weeks for a wedding. We preferred the Coba over the Emerald Bay simply because of the size. We like to wander around and see different things on the resort. Playa is close as are many excursions and of course the Tulum ruins ($3 by collectivo)

Depends what you are looking for. Two completely different settings. Service at both were fine. Last time at the Coba was in January - fairly quiet and Riu was May - busy with lots of locals as it had just opened.

Any questions PM me.
