Going to a wedding from Derby (near train station) to Ashbourne (Market Square) in May and would like to know the best way to get there There are 9 of going and we are staying in the Hallmark Midland Rd Derby which I believe is near both the train station and the bus station. Is there a a taxi which could take 4 adults and 5 children youngest 4

Why don't you use the bus? There's plenty of buses from the bus station to Ashbourne - for example, there is a "Swift" service which runs hourly.

There is no rail station in Ashbourne.

The Hallmark Hotel is next to the rail station. A newer hotel now called the Hallmark Inn is just across the road.

The taxi would cost you about £30-40 you can check on the Western cars website at https://westerncars-derby.cabubble.co.uk There are several other companies on yell.com

The bus service as I say is about a mile, 10 minutes walk. The Operator is Trent Barton. I would estimate tickets at £4-5 each so you may find the taxi cheaper as well as more convenient.

Like Aardvark, I am a bus person myself.

There are plenty of taxis at the rail station at most times.

Legally, a taxi can only carry 8 passengers, so you would need two of them.

The bus can seat 45 people so you shouldn'y have a problem finding a seat.

The timetable for the bus can be found here:

https:/…maps-and-times

If you buy two £9 "ZigZag Group" tickets on the bus from Derby, they will cover the journey to Ashbourne and back again for your entire group. £18 is much cheaper than the cost of hiring two taxis each way.

I should have known that Phil would have a better option where buses are concerned. The only time you may get a full bus is after a home football match or at the end of the working day.

The Hallmark Inn to the bus station is about 900 metres / 11 minutes along Park Street and the footpath into the Westfield centre turn right, go outside and over the road to the bus station.

In Ashbourne the Bus station is about 300 metres from the Town Hall, ask for directions or there is probably a town map to look at.

Don't bother googling the Zig Zag ticket - it is simply the name of the day rover ticket that is offered by the bus company that runs the bus service to Ashbourne - see https:/…our-tickets .

An adult single ticket from Derby to Ashbourne costs £3.80 so purchasing two ZigZag group tickets probably still makes sense.

Hello. In answer to your question there are taxis just outside the station; scores of them. The trouble will be the price. The average cost of a taxi that holds 5 people is £25-30. That makes the return journey by normal hackney/taxi £60.

On the other hand it will be cheaper to get a 16 seater mini bus. The driver will help you in with the luggage and knows where you are going. Phone 01335 345198. It is best to call between 10 am - 5.00 pm Monday to Friday. At the other times you may have trouble in getting through. Once you have been to the wedding ceremony where is the party? Your return will have to be from there which could mean the taxi is even more expensive.

If you get a bus you will have a walk to the market then be worried all day about your return times. If you are happy to do this on a Saturday in a town you don't know whilst wearing heals etc. Then the bus will certainly be cheaper.

Good luck. Have a great day.

Barbara - the original question was posted 9 months ago about attending a wedding last May ! The OP has therefore been and gone I'm afraid.
