Any ideas on the best place to eat lunch on a drive from Lawton, Oklahoma to Amarillo, Texas?
We just ate at the Texas Roadhouse off of I-40, in Amarillo, about 2 weeks ago and had a blast. Fun atmosphere, good food and service, plus easy on and off made it a winner in our book.
Edited: 12 years agoBips, Thanks for the info. We have a TRH here in Lawton and have enjoyed eating there several times. They are fun.
You're welcome. Have you made the trip yet? If not, check the Amarillo restaurant reviews here on trip advisor for some more ideas. I've found most to be very accurate.
No, haven't gone yet. We are going out to the balloon festival and then to the Grand Canyon the first of October.
I was hoping someone else would chime in with suggestions. What is your route? I ate at a great, little Mexican restaurant in Altus a couple of months ago and a fabulous restaurant near Mangum at the Quartz Mountain State Park resort. I'll post a link to my trip which contains reviews for both (i think) so you can read about. If it doesn't have my review of the Mexican, I'll do some checking and get back with you.
After you determine your route, check the restaurant reviews for those towns here on Trip Advisor and also on Yelp and Urban Spoon. Also, check with the Texas forums when you know which towns are on your route.
The Mexican restaurant we went to was The Plaza. The review is here:

Thanks for your reply. The lst time we went to Amarillo we took 62 straight west to 287 but Yahoo Maps suggested we hit 83 in Texas and go up to I40 and then across. May do take their suggesion since we are trying to get on to Amarillo. The next 3 nights we spend in Santa Fe
My iPad maps app agres with your first 62/287 route. If you go that way, you can stop in Altus for the Plaza Mexican restaurant, but the Quartz Mountain restaurant is only a few miles out of your way so you could go there, too. The lodge is very cool and decorated with a lot of Native American artwork. You may take a tour, then go have lunch at Sundance Cafe. Have them seat you so you have the beautiful view of the lake if you go there. Good luck.
If you get a chance go to Quartz Mountain in the Summer for the youth festival. It is a one of a kind. The oboe player from NY PO told me that he never misses when he can make it. One time the choir was singing with the NY opera singer and the ballet dancers came out and danced as well. Wonderful place.
