Tent Camping @ Sunset Bay, Oregon...

Hello. I was wondering if I could get any advice on camping at Sunset Bay, Oregon on November 26th to December 1st. I am a hard core camper and I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I know that there will be a very strong chance of rain - I am ok with that. I was just wondering what site would be best? Looking for any help to make my trip more enjoyable....rain included. :)

It's been a few years since our family was at Sunset Bay (beautiful area to camp) but if I remember correctly:

Loop A seemed more open, less treed

Loop C is heavier wooded, possibly backing up to a hill?

We camped in B25-27, they were OK spots for a group but I don't know I would like them individually-no privacy between the two spaces.

The campground map indicates a creek going through camp. I don't think I'd pick a creekside spot for a winter visit.

Definitely bring a waterproof dining canopy!

There are yurts available too! :)

Have fun.

There will be rain. That's an absolute certainty - bet the ranch on it, lol!

There may also be a strong storm that rolls through, with winds up to 90 mph, or just a normal storm with winds up to only maybe 50 mph.

You might think about a yurt :-)

I've camped in C Loop and in the yurts there. I think the above poster is correct in that C Loop is more wooded if I remember correctly. If it were me I'd stay in a yurt, but if you're looking for privacy I'd choose site C17. (based on memory and the maps they have online)

Wow... I can't imagine that privacy would be a concern for a tent camper on the coast at the end of November. Unless it's from bears! Not really, fun4itlulu... ;-) I remember tent camping at Fort Stevens (on the coast near Astoria) during November years ago. Froze our butts off, but didn't get a drop of rain. So, be prepared for anything. Except warm...

I guess you can throw the whole privacy issue out the window if you're staying at a state park no matter what time of year. The good thing about staying at state parks is that the campground has ice, water, flush toilets, firewood for sale, etc. But if one were a "hard core camper" they could do a lot better on the oregon coast than a state park. Am I right?

Above from Oregone.

That is right some Forest Service CGs may be better for the hard core looking for more privacy. even then you will have to be selective. They are north of North Bend on coast and inland south of Port Orford . some may be closed though
