Oxley travel x2. Very good service, used twice now.
Many thanks to you both.
In your opinion is Lord Howe island a 'must see', given the expense? Any recommnedations of where to stay?
Its not a a must see but its a lovely laid back place for a break.
Where to stay depends on your budget.
If you can ride a bike and enjoy doing so then anywhere on the island is nice.
If you are walking to places then you are best near to the shops, Old Settlement Beach or just up from Neds Beach.
We went through Spacifica Travel agency in Brisbane. Both them and Oxley have special deals at times with added extras so check out both. Depends on which one offers you the best at the time. Absolutely Loved LHI and will be going back sooner rather than later. Pick a place to stay that is close to what interests you most.. Riding bikes is a must for most but there are bus trips for the less inclined or able.
I rarely go back to a holiday destination, have been twice to lord Howe and will return again.
A must see for us but we love snorkelling, in which here you will see the most spectacular coral and fish that you can swim from the beach and we love hiking, which Lord Howe has such wonderful walks and the Mt Gower climb a real buzz. If you are not fussed on the above then probably less appealing maybe. You can cut the price by going not peak time but still warm weather and taking some of your own food. There is a reason it is heritage listed, it is simply awesome!
Definitely Oxley travel in Port Macquarie. They specialize in Lord Howe island .... so their staff are so experienced with the island and know the locals personally. We have used them many times and would not recommend anyone else for such a specialised destination. Other travel agencies that dont specialise in Lord Howe (Oxley is the only one) just cant provide you with the service/information that is required for this unique destination.
