Girls’ Trip for 2 nights - hotel and tour

Recommendation for two moms doing a quick getaway to Charleston in July? We figured we would stay close to Kings Street for shops, restaurants, etc. Would love a hotel with pool. Suggestion for a food or historical short tour to get a sense of the city?

The Restoration hotel is on King St. They have a variety of room options including One and Two Bedroom residences that are very spacious and may be a good fit. They do have a rooftop pool and an onsite rooftop bar and restaurant.

Pools in the historic district are not common. Check the Mills House hotel, they have one. As do ~ King Charles Inn, Belmond Charleston Place Hotel and maybe a couple of others that I can't think of right now. A walking tour is by far the best way to get some history. Each lasts approx 2 hours and gives much more detailed info than a carriage ride. You may want to check the site TravelZoo for deals on historic district hotels, they often have some. If you have not already done so ~ please look to the right side of this page for Top Questions about Charleston. It will give you lots of info on what is available to see and do in the area. Once you have some ideas on what you might like, we can fill in details, answer questions, etc. Also read thru some of the other Charleston Forum posts ~ there are literally dozens of questions regarding restaurants. The places that you see named again and again are the places that we really dine in. No one on this board EVER suggests a "tourist trap" and if you mention one, we try to steer you away from it. It will be very hot and humid in July, so be prepared.

Thank you for your quick responses! Would you ever recommend staying over the bridge at a place like The beach club? We thought of staying in town with only two nights would maximize convenience. Also wondering if it’s worthwhile to venture out to magnolia plantation. So much to do - so little time!

With your short amount of time, I would not suggest a plantation. It is too time consuming or if you just rush thru to conserve time, it's not worth it. Each plantation (there are 5) is on average a 30 min drive (each way) from the historic district, that is without any fender benders or heavy traffic. Again, with only 2 days, stay in the historic district (NOT the same as downtown, which is walkable to nothing), if you stay anywhere else, you will likely need to rent a car, which you can skip in the HD. If the budget in the HD does not work, then you may have to choose elsewhere. Before deciding on a hotel, you can always run them by us for questions on location, etc. After one trip, you will likely want to come back, so do more outlying things on that trip. You could easily stay here a solid week and not see and do all the things available. Lots of people visit each year.

I agree with endosunshine as far as time goes.

If you can afford to stay in the Historic District I would do so, if it is outside of the budget there are certainly other areas that would be very nice including Beach Club.

King Charles Inn vs. Mill House? Pool, rooms, easy access to walk to shops and restaurants? These are both within our price range and seem to check similar boxes.

As to a tour, you should consider Charleston Tea Party Walking Tour. https://charlestontour.wordpress.com/

Between the 2 ~ go with the Mills House. Grand lobby, lovely place. King Charles is fine, a former Best Western. Mills House is historic.

The Mills House it is! Just booked our room. Thank you for all your help. We won’t be renting a car. Does anyone happen to know approximate cost of an Uber from airport to this hotel?
