First time, rental and food/drink options

We are going to Folly for the first time. It will be just two adults. We usually stay by Rehoboth Beach with lots of cute stores, bars, food options. We've been to charleston twice and we love it too. I know this won't be like rehoboth but wondering where we can stay in Folly that we can be right on the ocean but also easily walk to restaurants and bars. We love a view while eating and drinking if there any bars right on the beach that'd be nice. Would like a really nice condo or maybe even nice small house. Also wondering if the town has cute little shops to browse along with a nice variety food and drink options. Thanks in advance.

We love Folly, Its a funky cool small southern beach community. There is really only one ocean front hotel, and just a few ocean front condos. The restaurants/bars are pretty basic with very few ocean front. For cute shops I think you will need to head to King Street.

Again, we love folly, but don't expect the kind of action you might be used to.

The Tides is the only hotel and you will have a view there. It's front beach. The Folly Pier is next to it. There is a restaurant on the pier, but don't know anything about the new one. There are some good little restaurants out there, but no others on the water. The bars are interesting depending on what you are looking for. The shops out there in my opinion are tourist traps comparable to Myrtle Beach with cheap made T-shirts and tacky trinkets. You would have to go to the Historic District for cute shops with local charm. King Street has a few left, but the rent has become so outrageous that many of the places there are chains, like J Crew, etc.

Hi Terrie, no intention to step on your toes.I think we agree that visitors either try to work themselves to death or expect Charleston to have all the thing they have in other locations...expect Charleston to be different in great ways.

You'll find lots of fried food options, bar type food on Folly...not much in the way of water views (waterfront property is just too expensive for most restaurants). Check out Bowen's Island which is just before you get to Folly, on the right, it's on the water (again fried food).

There are a few of your usual beachside tee shirt shops and the like, but as mentioned above, you'll have to head into Charleston for items of more interest and variety.

Make your way to the northeast end of the island to view the Morris Island lighthouse. You can't get to the lighthouse, but it's a nice view and great photo op. You'll park and walk about half a mile to get to the beach.
