Hello,

If you prefer relaxing on a cruise boat, then yes, houseboat is the choice. But it won't be that quite as you would meet 1 houseboat every 5 minutes.

If you need a quite cruise, you should explore the Ashtamudi backwaters of Kollam. Even better, if you plan to go for a kayaking or canoeing trip, for that the best suitable and quite space is Paravur Backwaters located on the Mayyanad. Paravur Backwaters is the meeting place of freshwater flow of Ithikkara River and Arabian Sea. It's a truly unique place in the sense that it's ultra quite without any commercial tourists operators. You can take a view of the untouched mangrove forests, coconut lagoons, small islands, sandbar, rivulets, indigenous people doing sustainable fishing, etc. There are two or three resorts which offers very affordable packages too compared to other busier places.

Best of luck.

The experience in Alleppey . Kumarakom backwaters is different . There are more boats here

for quieter ( comparatively) areas you may look at Munroe island boat cruise ( near Kollam)

you can also consider Vaikom backwaters if you are based in Cochin

you can look at Andakaranazhy backwaters where you can go for boat cruise in punted boats ( 20 minutes from Fort Cochin)

If you are looking for quiet and less commercial Houseboat cruise it is best in North Kerala.

Neeleshwar in North Kerala

Bekal in North Kerala are the best places to a quiet Cruise.

In Central Kerala Alleppey and Kumarakom are very famous but more commericialed and more than 2000 houseboats are there. But Alleppey has more canals & lagoons.

Vaikom is another place which is situated near to Kumarakom which I is less crowded and has canals and very famous for village life.

Hi! Munroe Island is perfect for what you're looking for, near Kollam. I have written a blog about our visit which includes some information about the canoe trips we did here. It sounds like you would love them! holidaywithteenagersinkerala.com/munroe-isla…
