College visit to Harvard in Feb. Need advice

We are staying at Irving House but don't arrive at Logan till 10 pm. What type of transportation should we use to get to Irving House? Also, any other ideas on sights to see or restaurants in the area would be great.

Thanks.

Assuming the Irving House is around Harvard Square, you can take the T (Silver Line to South Station, get on the Red Line, get off at Harvard) or take a cab from the airport.

What kind of sights are you interested? And what sort of restaurants (price, cusine, atmosphere, location, etc.)? More specific questions yield better answers.

It's off of Cambridge Street, a short walk from the T stop, but one you might not want to do with luggage, in the cold, or in the snow. You can usually find a taxi in the rank in front of the Holyoke Center (do a U-turn as you come up out of the subway and walk to the next block) to take you the rest of the way. Or simply take a taxi directly from the airport.

Daughter is 17. Loves history! She loves typical american fare, pizza, burgers, good sandwiches and salads. We don't want to go anywhere expensive or fancy. We just want to run around Boston/cambridge and get a taste of the cities. We'd be interested in any intriguing museum exhibits also.

Thanks for the help

That is a pretty quick trip from logan via cab. Just make sure the cabbie takes the Ted Williams and stays on the Mass pike to the allston/cambridge exit. You should also have an idea how to get to the irving house from this exit.

Walking aound the square is always pleasant.

Check out Grendel's Kitchen, bow and arrow streets. Walk up Mass Ave in the direction of Porter Square, if a nice day and obviously The Harvard Yard.

Mt. Auburn Street from JFK down to Mass Ave ave is very nice and historic.

Try to walk over a few of the bridges which go over the river.

The "keyest" sites in Cambridge are Harvard Yard, Radcliff Yard, Brattle Street, and the Square itself.

Around Harvard, I really like Russel House Tavern (tip: sitting downstairs is more comfortable than upstairs) right in the Square, and Garden at the Cellar just a few minutes walk down Mass Ave.

You may want to visit the new American wing at the Museum of Fine Arts. There's also a fashion exhibit on designer Arnold Scaasi that looks interesting.

If you want to window shop (or shop!), walk the length of Newbury St. in Boston. There are more chain stores there now, but still a number small interesting stores makes for fun looking around.

I'd just take a cab to the B&B--giving the driver directions is a good idea too.

Directions? In which case it might be a good idea to know that Irving St. is almost across Cambridge street from the high school in Cambridge, Rindge and Latin. Coming off the exit from the Mass Pike, as suggested above, how would you then suggest a stranger direct the cab driver? Straight, through to Prospect to Camb St? Left on Mem Drive and into Harvard Sq.? You're probably right that a driver at the airport might not know the location.
