The places you might encounter traffic are passing through downtown Sedona and Cottonwood, especially on weekends. Otherwise you would be driving in rural areas. In Sedona, the traffic is mainly tourists tourists so any time of day. Cottonwood is mostly local traffic and varies throughout the day. Neither place will be clogged with people driving to work.Edited: 08 September 2016, 00:11
There is construction on 89A south of Flagstaff. Traffic is controlled to one lane during working hours.
Traffic is usually light down that way. We've been through it twice without issue. A 10 minute wait would probably be more than expected.
Flagstaff traffic is a non issue. However, you should expect traffic on 89A around Uptown Sedona. (Bob knows there is no downtown). His advice to do your tour on a non weekend day is probably the best.
Thanks for the info. We will plan accordingly!
The drive down from Jerome into Cottonwood is one of my favorite sights, anywhere. A little scary to folks not used to the twists and turns, but worth every thrill and chill. Just take your time -- like the others have said, not a lot of traffic clogs, but the terrain definitely warrants some caution at places.
