Cottage on the beach or motel for 6

Looking to rent a place for 6 ladies to spend a girls weekend in May. Prefer to be on or close to the beach -or Newport Harbor. They'd like to be able to walk to restaurants and shops. A 3 bedroom cottage or house would be perfect. Or a boutique hotel with 2-3 rooms that opened onto the beach.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Thank you

If you want to walk to restaurants and shops, you should book in the harbor area -- that's where most of them are. You wouldn't get a cottage, though, that I can think of. It would be hotels and B and Bs. If it's not Memorial Day weekend, you may find a special or two, if you do some research.

What ILoveRI said... the shops and restaurants are in the harbor area. The beaches are on the opposite side of the peninsula, along the Middletown border. You won't find many rentals, if any, that will rent for just a weekend. They normally rent by the week.

If you want a hotel overlooking a beach (all are located across the road and are not directly on the beach) check out Quality inn and Comfort Inn in Middletown and Newport Beach Hotel and Suites. If you want to be in the harbor area your choices will be based on your budget.

If want to be near the beach and a short cab ride to the downtown then look at the Newport Beach Hotel and suites. They offer a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite that is beautiful, it's in the new building and overlooks the beach. There is a pull out in the living room and a nicely stocked kitchen and eating area. They also have 1 bedrooms. Nice hot tub and fire pit on the roof to enjoy at the end of the day.

Thanks for the responses, but let me clarify: We definitely do not want a hotel. In years past, on both Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod they've rented rooms at a small, boutique motel right on the beach. Rooms that were adjacent, so they could hang just outside the rooms on the beach , or once it was one large room on the beach. A small cottage would be perfect. There's going to be as much hanging around , catching up and drinking wine as there is shopping. It's before Memorial Day, so hoping something would rent for just a weekend. A long walk or short drive to the harbor and restaurants would be fine.

Thanks again for any advice.

The problem is that there are not really any hotels, motels, or inns right ON the beach in Newport or Middletown. Unless you want to spend some $$ in which case look at Castle Hill's Beach Cotttages:

If you stayed downtown, you might be able to find a time share with a balcony overlooking the harbor...

Yes, what milemarker said, and there are NO cottages right on the beach. Absolutely none in Newport aside of hotel owned. VERY few, if any at all, on Aquidneck Island (where Newport is actually located). In the rest of RI you could expect to pay a minimum of $2000 for a week. Since college students rent by the month, and they rent beach houses, there are pretty much NO daily rentals in May (the students still have that month) and in June they rent by the week.

Basically the Cape does not have a large university full of students looking for housing, and RI does.
