Direct Bus between San Jose and Santa Teresa/Mal Pais

The Direct Bus service that runs between San Jose and Santa Teresa/Mal Pais/Cobano/Montezuma now has a web site that allows you to buy an advanced ticket online and reserve a seat.

The site is just new and needs a bit of tweaking (that will be done as the use grows).

If you are boarding the bus at Puenta Villa Bonita in Alajuela (near the airport), or at San Ramon, you still must choose San Jose as your departure point.

The bus driver has all the information on his smartphone and if you don't board the bus at the San Carlos station in San Jose, he will assume you will be boarding at Villa Bonita or San Ramon.

The ticket can be purchased as far as 3 months in advance.

The site is in Spanish and English:

https://www.laterminalcostarica.com

If you have any problems, customer service at 2642-1112 is very helpful in Spanish and English.

Hi Ronaki A!

The updated web site to reserve your seat for the Direct Bus from the cental valley to Santa Teresa/Mal Pais has a pick up point option.

The first box 'Where are you leaving' you have to choose San Jose.

The next box 'Where do you want to go' you choose Cobano, or Santa Teresa or Montezuma (be specific).

The next box you have to enter your travel date that you are reserving the bus ticket for. You do not have to choose a return date if you do not want to.

The box below the choices asks you where you will be boarding the bus.

Puente Villa Bonita is the stop close to the airport (you have to cab it to this spot, it is not within walking distance of the airport).

Terminal 7-10 is downtown San Jose. You will be back-tracking if you leave the airport and travel all the way downtown San Jose, the bus will return on the exact same route!

Would you happen to know where the bus loads off passengers in Santa Teresa?

Maybe someone can chime in here on this question because I have not taken the bus right into Santa Teresa for quite some time.

In the past, the bus stopped at Playa Carmen and a designated stop at the north end of Santa Teresa.

Tried to book the 6AM bus online as our hotel in San Jose claimed it was an option but we only got the 2PM option showing as well. The hotel didn't have answers for us. We went to the bus station at 5AM to enquire and found out the 6AM bus you need to take is to Cobano only. The bus to Cobano costs 7320 CRC including your ferry ticket. From there you take a separate bus for an additional 1000 CRC. I do not know the exact schedule of the additional bus but it was out on the street when we arrived.
