Cost of supermarket food and Restaurants

We are staying at the Ocean 2 and are wondering what the cost of food at the Supermarket are like. Ie/bread,water,eggs,lunch meat, pasta, fruit, veggies.

Can you buy beer, alcohol at the supermarkets?

What is the closest and best supermarket to Ocean 2?

Any recommendations for dining out in the evening. Not looking for fine dining, but rather casual/bar&grill style, good but not expensive. Our plan is to prep Breakfast&Lunch ourselves and eat out in the evening. Our first NON-all inclusive in 15 years, a little worried about budget as there are several couples to consider.

Loaf of bread - $3.95

Water - no need to purchase as Barbados has extremely potable water. Bottled water such as Evian and Highland, IMHO, is an unecessary form of expenditure which can be avoided.

Eggs - $7.50 approximately for a dozen.

Lunch Meat - $4.50 approximately per can

Pasta - 500 grams for about $6

Fruit - Imported fruits such as peaches, nectarines, strawberries, blueberries and melons are quite pricy in Barbados. You can easily get 4 oranges for about $3, 4 bananas for about $3.25 or so.

Veggies - The local ones are very affordable. Dont recall the exact prices off the top of my head. Imported ones once again will cost you.

You can purchase beer and alcohol at all supermarkets islandwide.

I would recommend you go to Super Centre at Southern Plaza in Oistins. Excellent selection, customer service, customer shuttle etc. Their website is www.supercentre.com where you can easily find prices for other items.

Check out Paulo's Churrasco do Brazil, McBrides, Just Grillin and Cafe Sol for inexpensive food in a casual setting.

You can also purchase prepared food at the Deli of Super Centre. Everything ranging from rice, mashed potatoes, chicken, fish, pork, lamb, veggies etc..

All prices I mentioned are in BBD. Divide by 2 for USD/CDN. Divide by 3.20 for GBP.

Hope this helps

Regards

If you need just essential supplies there is Dover mini mart facing the entrance to Oceans 2, also another one called Scotties about 20 yards to your left.

Yes they do.

For inexpensive eating try the St Lawrence Grill and the Chineses restaurant above it. Directly opposite Southern Palms. Good choice of food and very pleasant staff.

gizwizboston

In addition to what Almatt has said, do note that some supermarkets/stores will take USD at $1 to $1.98 BBD and others will do $1 to $2 BBD.

Don't bother to line up at the bank to change USD as they give you less than most businesses who often (but not always) give 2 to 1, plus you have to pay the bank charge to do it and waste part of you day. Spend USD as normal, but as has been said, you'll get BDS as change. But that's ok too seeing as you'll be in Barbados!
