We are going to Chaweng mid April and will be eating out every night .Will my husband have to wear long trousers in restaurants or be OK in smart shorts (chinos, cargos)?.It's our first time to Thailand so all new to us.

One thin pair of long trousers will not weigh down your luggage if you wear them on the flight. Also good as a mosquito deterent at night. In the daytime unless visiting temples or wandering around cities like Bangkok you can wear shorts especially when in beach locations.

We were in Singapore last year and stayed with an expat - the norm for eating out at food courts etc for the guys was smart shorts, as in not board shorts etc and to the knee) - had we gone to any fancy restaurants, it would definitely have been long pants.
