Oh dear! Yes Thakhek is Muang Khammouan. I think Thakhek is the informal and old name. If no Internet that's a dissappointment. I thought this city is quite touristy of late. Just that I'm going there for business and need to have wifi or at least Internet.

I'm sure you'll find public internet in guesthouses or the odd cafe - internet has reached far smaller places then Thakek by now - but I dont recall ever seeing wifi.

I know of two hotels offering free wifi - the Inthira which is by the old square on the riverside, and the Riverside Hotel which is the 5 storey hotel next to the ferry crossing to Thailand.

I am at the Inthira and it does have wifi, thanks. A life-saver. I saw the rooms of the Riveira and ate at the restaurant - not at all impressed. The Inthira is better value for money, though by no means is it an excellent place.
