“Delays, delays, delays”
Review of United Airlines

Reviewed 28 August 2017

The flight from Aspen to Chicago was on time. However, the flight from Chicago to Traverse City was delayed over and over and I spent 7 hours at O'Hare.

I live in a community with limited air service. United no longer flies here. However we had accumulated a bunch of frequent flyer miles and we wanted to get rid of them, so I used them to go to Albuquerque. While this trip was uneventful, previous trips with United have been awful....long delays with the reason "we don't have a flight crew" given. One of these trips was a last leg of a flight from Europe from Newark to Binghamton. Flight was posted with a delay of 2+ hours (after a 4 hour layover), and then at the gate, we were told that our plane had left for Ithaca and when it returned, it would take us to Binghamton. This got us back to Binghamton at 3AM. There was a couple, even older than I, waiting for the flight. The gentleman was wheelchair bound and when it came time to board the bus to take us to the plane, there was no one from United to help him onto either bus or plane. A couple of young men, passengers, helped him. This was an outrageous way to treat an elderly disabled man. Given our late arrival time, I was fortunate that this couple had hired a driver to pick them up at the Binghamton airport and that they lived not far from me. They gave me a lift home...the Binghamton airport shuts down at night and there are no taxis. As I said, United no longer serves Binghamton, but Delta does and the service is much better.

Is member of United's frequent flier group and therefore prioritizes United when looking for tickets but will not pay more than 5% extra for flying with United. This journey included round trip of non-stop flight with no surprise or extra frills

I flew a round trip in the so called Polaris business class from LAX to PVG and back over the course of 4 days in August. I have 5 million frequent flyer miles over my business career and more than 2 million on United. I rarely fly economy so I understand excellent business and first class service vs mediocre or terrible service. I have also had top level status on several major airlines including Singapore Airlines.

United dropped the ball on this flight from check in to deplaning. The counter crew at PVG didn't seem to care at all about customers. Only one of four flight attendants I interacted with was even remotely pleasant. They seemed to want to get the service over with so they could "close the curtain" and chat.

This flight was a total contrast to the pleasant experience I had on the flight to Shanghai. Very pleasant crew - smiles, positive interactions and a focus on service.

This is the current United Airlines story - an inconsistent product from a service standpoint. This crew didn't seem to know Polaris had been rolled out. Of course, the product still isn't what was advertised. I have flown 11 "Polaris" round trips and have still not flown in the alleged "new" seats where everyone has aisle access. Sometimes the crews offer the product as advertised in terms of business and/or first class amenities but just as often, they don't. United service is more about people than flatbed seats - a lesson you should learn before the next economic downturn empties your international premium class in favor of foreign carriers who have consistent customer service.

i make this flight regularly. there is no special feeling, no attention paid to good customers, no special food...no special anything.

fly cathay, or singapore, or korean airlines and you'll see what good service is.

this is industrial strength travel, and is not a good or memorable experience.
