United has spent a lot of money to upgrade its Business Class service and probably more to market it but in my opinion it falls short of business class travel at most other airlines.
First the pluses. Flat beds and good food also gel pillows were great. There was a duvet but no one came to help make my bed.
But it is clear from the configuration that United tried to maximize seats rather than aesthetics and comfort. Polaris claims that every seat has direct access to an aisle which is true and also can be convenient but only every other row has access to a window. The overall ambience is dark and claustrophobic. Most airlines when you land or takeoff you can see outside from wherever you might be seated but not so in Polaris. The service was very poor , no drinks were served till almost 3 hours into the flight and although there seemed to be a lot of staff they did not communicate much nor did they ask if we needed anything. This was very much in contrast to the following flight on Lufthansa FRA to BOM especially given the stereotype that Germans are efficient but not very friendly. Ergonomically the seats although laying completely flat were cramped and not comfortable as some of the plugs for electricity and power were behind you and hard to reach
Bathrooms were slightly bigger but were not kept clean by staff The prices on American and United tend to be the highest as they have trapped Star Alliance and One World members but the value ( service + comfort)is in some of the newer airlines
