adjacent construction extreme noise- and they don't care

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Jul 2024
Where do I start. This big deal is that they had construction going on in the adjacent unit. I'm not talking a couple bangs here and there, but loud jackhammering. We heard it as soon as we got to the room. When I called to complain the response was, "yes we have construction going on" I said it was way too loud , no response to that. I thought well it's Friday so it's just one day, so I asked they wont be working tomorrow, right? and the response was' It will be going on all weekend" - our entire stay. In addition I had made a reservation for a two bedroom unit. Upon check in we where given keys that opened 2 adjacent units and explained that together they made up our rental- she was very specific in her description how it all worked. Prior to dinner I went to confirm that that what they had give up was the correct set up and they insisted that it was. I was confused because one door opened a room with a king and 2 twins, and the key also opened another room with a queen. We were not suppose to have twin beds but it did not matter because we had the other room with a queen. I still thought this was wrong but the front desk insisted it was correct. Upon returning from dinner the 2nd room the key opened was now occupied with other people's luggage. (what the heck- and they wanted me to bring them the key to the far away lobby to to take it away from us saying they had made a mistake when they checked us in.- I had to tell them to come get the key themselves from us) The unit we were left in had a room with 2 twin beds, the description said the 2nd room would be a queen or 2 double beds- no where are twins mentioned. They said they could move us the next day to the correct type of room reserved but it would still be adjacent to the jackhammering. We only had a total of 3 nights so it was not worth moving 5 peopel luggage. The next day we could not take the noise anymore and called them them listen to it over the phone so they could hear we were not exaggerating and my husband went next door and told the workers our granddaughter could not sleep, that it had to stop for her to nap and we would tell them when she woke up (and we did). At check out I brought up the noise again and that they should not book people next to construction or at least warn them. They did not even say I am sorry- just starred blankly at me. Noise might not be a big deal for people gone all day but with a 2 year old in our party that needs naps it is- and they knew that in the reservation. It was impossible for her to sleep. In addition we had a rain day which kept us in our room. The wrong room not the biggest deal, two twins where not fun but the horrendous noise from construction combined with their non caring attitude about it is unacceptable. Lots of people love this place but I doubt they had to listen to a jackhammer.

Great resort that was relatively quiet even with families/children at the resort. They have adults only pools for a more relaxed experience if that's what you are looking for. Royal West Indies staff are so nice. Take advantage of the half price happy hour for drinks from 5pm to 7pm. Beach is amazing with plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas set up for RWI guests. Public beach access is right next to the RWI resort beach so it can get a little busy but not bad for the month of June. Note there are no elevators and we were on the third floor walk up. Also, bring bug spray as there are A LOT of Noseeums biting away. Mosquitos were not an issue as we had a nice breeze during our stay. It's humid in Turks and Caicos in June so even with moderate 80s temperatures it will feel hotter due to the humidity. This is our second time staying at this resort in 19 years it hasn't changed or aged....it still feels fresh. And if you rent from Hertz please note that it's not like any other Hertz you will go to....it takes a long time to pick up and return as it takes about 10 minutes to process each rental pick up and return AFTER waiting in a really long line. And they cram you into a shuttle van to and from the airport that is hot and uncomfortable. Back to the Royal West Indies I would definitely return for a third time due to the cleanliness and convenience.

Room tip: There are adults only pools/hot tub in the back away from the restaurant for a more quiet experience. Bring bug spray for the Noseeums!

I selected Royal West Indies because it was touted that the best stretch of Grace Bay Beach was between this resort and nearby Club Med (adults only). It did not disappoint. The beach was spectacular! Gentle slope, clear waters and fine white sand, probably the best beach in the Caribbean that we have visited. The resort staff were all great except that initially they gave us a ground floor beachfront room which had no views of the beach! However upon my request they transferred us to another room on a higher level of the same building that had an amazing view of the beach which made us happy and satisfied. The resort has only one restaurant that is managed and staffed with Filipinos and locals. The service and food were excellent, even better than the ones at the Ritz Carlton and Grace Bay Club which we also visited. There resort has two pools (one if quiet pool) which we enjoyed both.

Room tip: If booking a beachfront room which is more expensive that those that are not, please specify or request a room located on a higher floor.

First trip to the Island, Royal West Indies was recommended by a family member that stayed on Property during May 2023. We had 4 guests and rented 2 bedroom, 2 bath units. The units were recently updated, very nice and maintained. Quiet and AC worked well. Housekeeping was awesome and property is well landscaped and groomed. The staff was nice and accomodating. Pricing for food is expensive, I would stick to the menu items and not spend the money for the special food events offered in the evening. Take advantage of the 5 to 7 happy hour. Rental a car to seek and take advantage of the resturants close by for better value, plenty of choices. No downside to report, only a word of advice. Ensure to sign and keep all of your on property receipts and ensure you check your final invoice/bill for any discrepancies. We found one and it took us 24 to 36 hours to have it removed from our final bill. I would stay at this resort again for a quiet get away. If you want a quiet place to stay without alot of ill behaved travellers, this is a good choice

Room tip: Ensure your keep your receipts with signatures. Check your final bill for any discrepancies and resolve prior to departure.

This is my fifth time coming to Turks and I always stay here at Royal West Indies. I wouldn't stay anywhere else! The rooms are beautiful and the location is perfect...close to the beach and our room walks right out to the pool. The grounds are amazing! Everyone who works here is always friendly and attentive. Best place everrrrrr!!!!

As a resident of Turks and Caicos, I have always enjoyed having lunch at the West Indies TCI restaurant. However, during my last visit, I had an unpleasant surprise regarding parking and customer service.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, I realized there were no available parking spots. I asked one of the hotel staff where the restaurant is located if they could indicate where I could park, as I was going to eat there. To my astonishment, I was informed that parking was reserved only for hotel guests and that I should park at a nearby restaurant called Opus One.

I have always been a regular customer at West Indies TCI and find it very pleasant, so I don't understand how they can treat local customers this way, forcing them to park very far from the restaurant. This is a major inconvenience and a lack of consideration for those of us who live in the area and want to enjoy their establishment.

In my opinion, this is terrible customer service. The restaurant should provide adequate parking for all their customers, regardless of whether they are hotel guests or local residents. This experience has made me reconsider my future visits to West Indies TCI and has definitely tarnished my perception of the restaurant.

I hope management takes note of this issue and makes the necessary changes to ensure that all customers, both local and foreign, feel welcome and valued. Otherwise, they are likely to lose the business of Turks and Caicos residents who have been loyal customers for years.
