The Beach:
Windsong is located directly across from Coral Gardens - where you can snorkel right off the beach. The water temperature is always perfect and they have hammocks in the beach for your use. You can rent snorkel equipment for $5 day or bring your own. Kayaks/paddleboard/Hobie/Peddle Boats/life jackets included. The water is shallow and calm enough near the shore to hold a drink without big waves. In my opinion this is the best oceanside on Grace Bay. The main difference between the beaches on Grace Bay is how narrow or wide the beach is. The Bight Area (Windsong/Coral Gardens) is very narrow, and near Seven Stars or the Ritz, the beach is very wide and large.
The Suite: We stayed in a 2 bedroom oceanfront suite on the 2nd Floor.
Kitchen included all appliances (new and full size), dishes, utensils, soap, detergent, salt/pepper, toaster, blender, coffee machine. Laundry washer and dryer (soap included/bring your dryer sheets) included. The 2nd bedroom had a smaller kitchen with microwave + fridge. Couch in Living Room and Couch in 2nd Bedroom are sofa beds. This suite is huge for a family of four, and could possibly accommodate up to 6 adults or 4 adults and 4 kids. Large TV screen in each room with cable. 2 balconies, with gorgeous views. If you have kids who like the pool, I'd recommend getting a suite on the first floor as there is direct access to the pool. Otherwise 2nd floor and higher have beautiful views of the ocean and sunsets.
The Service:
The GOOD: Use the butler service. Derron was very responsive and was able to answer many questions in a reasonable timeframe via email or phone (even weeks before the trip). The maids are wonderful and do a very thorough job. Very friendly.
The BAD: There is very little poolside or beachside service if any. No one comes to ask if you'd like to order any food or need anything. If you want breakfast to go, you can't get it delivered, you must order on the phone and pick it up. I was holding about 12 heavy wet beach towels after an excursion, was told I needed to walk all the way to the beach hut to drop them off myself. No one offered to help. When we checked in, we received a poorly guided tour. The staff at the front desk are not very helpful.
Covid Testing:
Save your vacation time and if you have a car, get testing from Seven Stars. It's quick and easy. We stayed there earlier this year and it was very well organized with a scheduled time. Took 10-15 minutes total. At the Windsong, there's a time range, only one person doing the test (very slowly) and also collecting the fees. We waited for the test for 3 hours in a crowded lobby! The Windsong really needs to step up their game and get this more organized as this left such a bad taste on one of our last few days. No one wants to waste their vacation time waiting for a covid test. We had an excursion planned and payed for later in the afternoon, - and we barely made it. We asked the front desk if they could let us get the tests even 10 minutes earlier, but they didn't seem to care, and told us we should cancel our excursion instead!
The Food:
Continental breakfast included: you can choose 3/pp: cereal, bagel, english muffin, oatmeal, fruit, yoghurt. Plus a glass of juice, Tea or Coffee.
You can add eggs/granola/pancakes/french toast for an additional high priced cost. We went to the supermarket (IGA) and bought breakfast items such as eggs/frozen fruit for smoothies/sandwich meat etc and made breakfast in our rooms as service is very slow and can take forever, and I'd rather not waste my time waiting for food, especially with hungry kids. We ordered continental breakfast to go and ate in our hotel room. We ordered lunch once and it wasn't very good, so ate lunch at Somewhere Cafe a few minutes to the left of the hotel on the beach. We did not eat dinner at the hotel as there were many amazing local restaurants that were so much better.
Travel:
Rent a car. This hotel is not walking distance to the shops and restaurants. Car rental is best in Turks and Caicos as taxi rides are ridiculously expensive and not worth the wait.
The Pool:
There are two pools. One by the beach and the other small pool near the back. There is a very small hot-tub (warm not hot). There was always chairs available even at full capacity.
The Gym:
They have most gym equipment and weights.
Would I stay there again?
Yes. For the price and size of the room and the location, I would definitely stay there again with family. I wouldn't eat there, or get covid tests there, but overall I'd stay there again. For couples, I would choose Seven Stars over The Windsong. The service there is impeccable.
