“Fantastic family holiday”

We had a fantastic two week stay in Slipway Cottage. This was our first stay in Slipway Cottage but our third in Portreath. I can't recommed Slipway Cottage and Portreath enough. The cottage was perfect for our young family - safe and comfortable and spotlessly clean. We had everything we needed. Jeff met us at the property and showed us around. He messaged us during the holiday to check that everything was OK and whether we needed anything.

The cottage looks over the ever changing harbour. We enjoyed walks round the harbour and crabbing just outside the cottage. The beautiful beach is a few seconds level walk away (other than a few steps over the harbour wall) The beach is amazing. It is sandy and has a stream running through it providing hours of paddling and digging for the children. There are rockpools and caves to explore during low tide as well as a small tidal pool. My children enjoyed body boarding and the beach is RNLI patrolled.

There is a friendly and good value beach cafe that over looks the beach - they also run the ice cream Kiosk. There's also a well stocked beach shop, supermarket and bakery all in a few paces from the cottage. There are two pubs a few paces away but the cottage was always quiet and we never heard any noise.

We really liked the wetsuit tub and hose in the garden so that we could rinse our feet after a day at the beach before going into the house. Portreath is breathtakingly beautiful, friendly and practical for young children - we love it! Porthtowan, Trevaunace Cove and Carbis Bay are all breathtaking beaches nearby. We would also recommend St Michal Mounts, Kynance Cove, Minnack Theatre, Godolphin Gardens, Dairyland and Lappa Valley Steam Railway for family days out.

Dear Lyn, I'm always happy to hear from my guests that they enjoyed their valuable vacation time not only at Slipway Cottage but also in Portreath & indeed further afield in the west of Cornwall. With so many beautiful & interesting places to visit & experience....although tucked away on the north coast, Portreath is actually quite central for touring around.
Many thanks for the smashing property review & personal recommendations for visitor attractions both natural & commercial!
Hopefully see you all again one day!

“Stay here...you won't be disappointed”

I chose to stay at Slipway Cottage after failing to find anywhere suitable in St Ives and after reading the reviews. What a find this was! The cottage is really great...3 bedrooms, decent bathroom, big kitchen/dining area, cosy living room with wood burning stove, washing machine, dishwasher etc. Jeff was there to meet us on arrival and showed us round. The cottage has everything you need...Internet access (a must for me, I'm afraid) was seamless and there is plenty of parking. To the front there is Portreath Harbour and to the rear is a decked area where you can sit outside.

i had never heard of Portreath but it's great to use as a base to explore Cornwall. The A30 is 10 mins away. Don't bother trying to to drive to St Ives...take the park and ride train service from Hayle or take the bus from Portreath (bus stop is 1 min from the cottage).

As for Portreath, it is a wonderful quiet Cornish village. We sampled all 3 pubs and their food (all were fine), the Chinese and Costcutter grocery store. The beach is 2 mins away and you can rent surfboards/wet suits etc from the beach front surf shop. My daughter had a 2-hour surfing lesson and loved it.

Would absolutely recommend Slipway Cottage.

Slipway is a lovely place to stay for a relaxing holiday near the beach. Jeff (the owner) couldn't do enough for us. The house was spotless and Jeff seemed to have thought of everything. The wetsuit wash area is a godsend when you get back from a good day's surfing on the fantastic beach. No need to even cross a road on the way to the beach which makes it great for children. My two (9 and 12) loved it and we have already enquired in to booking slipway for 2016.

Ok the important things... the house is immaculate and very well equipped, the shower is hot, the bath is big, the area is quiet, the beach is close and the beds are comfortable!

Jeff (host) was very friendly and very eager to make sure that your stay is as comfortable as possible and i was amazed at how much thought he had put into everything.

Cannot fault anything

What a find this place was. It has all you could need for a relaxing Cornish holiday. We were met on arrival by Jeff the owner and shown around. As mentioned by others a welcome pack of Cornish cream tea and clotted cream toffee were very much appreciated after a long journey, as we're the tea and coffee provided.
The location of the cottage is perfect, a waterside position on the quaint little harbour, central to the vilage with a 200 metre walk to the general store and bakery (fresh baked bread every morning) and a 2 minute walk to Portreath's lovely beach.
Jeff has obviously worked very hard to make this place a clean, comfortable, and well furnished and stocked holiday home. Lots of holiday information was provided, as was a good selection of dvd's and books if you needed them.
I cannot recommend this cottage enough, it felt more like a home than a holiday cottage and would like to say thank you to Jeff for everything he did for us during our holiday, way above and beyond what was expected.
