My daughter and I visited Costa Rica for the first time and only had a week to get a sample of what CR offers. We wanted to have a day at the beach and this place was recommended by the owners at Finca Bella Vista. John Charles, the owner of Coloso, was great with communicating by email in a timely fashion and helped us navigate our way by water taxi to the dock at Playa Zancudo. He drove us from the dock to Coloso. His property is very nicely kept, the rooms are clean, his staff are very kind and the food at his restaurant is very fresh and delicious. The vibe at Zancudo is very quiet and laid back. It isn't a hotel where you can get help any time you need. Plan to ask your questions when you arrive and then expect to feel on your own which if you don't expect 24-hr service is actually a nice change! The sandy beach isn't groomed but again, rustic which provides a unique experience. Be warned, the waves are intense and the water is deep so it's recommended to swim at low tide. Also, the gray/black sand is HOT and you WILL get a nasty sunburn in NO time at all if you aren't careful.
