I was in Costa Rica for a family vacation with my wife and 3 kids ages 12-21. We stayed in two neighboring bungalows. The kids had a two bedroom bungalow while my wife and I had a one bedroom bungalow. The bungalows were built with Costa Rican teak wood. They were clean and like new. The bungalows we stayed in were down a path past a narrow creek spanned by a wooden bridge, encapsulated by rainforest trees and vegetation.
If you want to sleep to sounds of the jungle sounds this place is for you but if you prefer to crank up the AC and sleep in any icy cold room you can do that too.
Wildlife is a common sight while we didn’t see monkeys or sloths during our stay at the hotel but we saw a numerous of parrots, scarlet macaws, many beautiful birds, iguanas, Jesus Christ (walk on water) lizards, basilisk lizards, and many beautiful butterflies. We followed a colony of leaf cutter ants from a flowering bush more than a hundred yards to their mound —a fascinating sight to behold.
This is a small hotel and the owners are world travelers who have applied their experience staying at many of the worlds finest hotels to the village of Ojochal. Their passion for service and dedication to quality is second to none.
Everything about this hotel is eco-first including amazing breakfasts hand-crafted and served by the owners....I was in Costa Rica for a family vacation with my wife and 3 kids ages 12-21. Everything about this hotel is eco-first including amazing breakfasts hand-crafted and served by the owners. Stay long enough and you might realize the breakfasts are vegan but so delicious and amazing you won’t miss eggs and bacon one bit. Numerous options for lunch and dinner are available in the village of Ojochal including several fine dining options that will surely please the palate of even the most sophisticated foodies.
We spent our first day on a boat exploring the wildlife at the Sierpe River which included sightings of Squirrel monkeys, boa constrictors, a crocodile, and many beautiful birds.
On day 2, we drove to Dominical for a white water rafting adventure on the Savegre River which included some not so optional swimming. The guides were a lot of fun and the experience brought our family together in a way that’s hard to put into words.
On day 3, we visited Corcovado National Park, boating from the Sierpe River to the mouth of the ocean following the coast south towards the park. Along the way we saw a humpback whale with her cub (cow).
On day 4, we did a zip lining adventure and while the kids loved the zip lining the views from the back of the truck while going up the mountain were absolutely breathtaking.
Hotel El Mono Feliz is a great place to get away, to unwind, to relax, and to take in a rainforest experience but sometimes duty calls and I certainly appreciated knowing that a high speed Wi-Fi network was available throughout the hotel grounds and bungalows.
