My husband and I stopped at Hotel el Mono Feliz during a road trip to Drakes Bay. It was late, raining, and we knew we had to find a place to stay. Because of the good reviews, we decided to stay here.
We arrived late, unannounced, with no reservation. Diana and Mickey couldn't have been more accomodating. They took us to our room with had a small kitchenette, dining table, and two very comfortable beds. The pillows felt new and the linens were soft.
But the best part was the next day when Diana brought breakfast to my room! It was delicious and even included banana bread. We then had some time to spare so we checked out the grounds.
People are often quick to stay at big resorts, but usually those resorts don't have mature plants or are in the best locations. Hotel el Mono Feliz has a mature garden in the back with royal palms adjacent to a river. There is a rancho where you can swing on a hammock and watch white face monkeys overhead! A cute coati even passed us by. It was so relaxing there, I took a nap.
There are a few important things that make a stay average to excellent. And that is a clean room, soft bedding, and people who are just flat out nice running the place.
