First off, El Castillo is the loveliest place we've ever visited. We were greeted by Kurly as soon as we arrived to check in and another staff member brought us our welcome cocktails. I couldn't help but look around and say "this is amazing" throughout the checkin process. The views, the decor and the sounds of relaxation really wowed me.

Kurly was extremely helpful and kind...he really went out of his way to make our stay the best ever. All the staff is great and the food was out of this world! As mentioned in previous posts, the owner, Scott, is wonderful. He greeted us with warm smile and even sent us some shots after dinner to help us digest!

Our room was ocean view and the bed was cloud from heaven. And the shower! Nothing but relaxation at this place. We spent 3 nights here and a smile never left our faces.

I could go on and on but the other posts really say it all. One thing I was worried about when booking was that it was technically rainy season in Costa Rica. DO NOT let this deter you from going! Our mornings were blue skies and sun and the rain started at 2-3ish and continued into the night. But on our last day, we didn't see a drop of rainfall. We watched the sunset from the pool area with a bottle of wine. That was the most memorable part of our trip, thanks to El Castillo. You guys are really amazing and we cannot wait to come back!

My group of 5 teenaged girls and I decided to be spontaneous and get a sunset drink at El Castillo. Our waiter Dariel was most gracious and the drinks were great. The manager Scott happened to greet us and gave us a crash course about the property.

Unbeknownst to us, there was a sushi bar, but unbeknownst to Scott, we had some unique dietary issues. When he heard about them, he assured us that he could accommodate them and next thing you know it, we were camped out for another 1.5 hours soaking up the view and ambience and a gaggle of sushi.

We were so grateful that Scott and his staff (Michael the sushi chef and amazing lady/bartender whose name escapes me after 2 strong margaritas) chose to treat 6 random non-guests so wonderfully.

Bravo!

Enter through the front doors to the breathtaking view of the lounge, infinity pool, river, Pacific Ocean and sky. This is a do not miss for any trip to southern Costa Rica. The staff, including Scott, the most gracious general manager, Gerson, Zoe, Harold, and Kerley, are all very friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and focused on providing you with the best, most enjoyable experience possible. Danny, the chef, turns out delicious and wonderful dishes, and the sushi chef is a master, preparing sushi that is among the best I've had. Everything about this place is impeccable.

Wow, so hard to describe this place. Small, 6 rooms, and thus cozy and very personalized. Attention paid to every little detail. Wonderful fresh breakfast anytime after we woke up. Spectacular view from our ocean view suite to the jungle as well as the private island/beach. If you like to read and enjoy napping the upgrade to the suits are well worth it. Although we got a complementary upgrade thanks to super Scott. Great for bird watching in the early morning. Refreshing large pool with amazing views. Scott, the manager and his team are such friendly and welcoming people. In just one week I felt like having made new friends and found a place to call home in Costa Rica. We will come back to our dream vacation place as often as possible. Any negatives? Honestly, none.

A little further down the road but well worth the extra few minutes. With only five rooms we were pampered to the extreme. Scott, the General Manager is the greatest guy and Herson was was always ready to help but I am sorry I didn't get names of the other staff members because they all bent over backwards to ensure our comfort. We were well taken care of, they even got the kitchen going early and fed us a hot meal before an early morning tour. The hotel is located on a gorgeous ocean view hilltop with a drop away pool that is unbelievable. The food in the restaurant (Azul) was five star. Local (both Tico and U.S. expats) came in to Azul and the company was awesome. We actually went exploring up a dirt road and found Scott at an out of the way place and spent part of the afternoon with some really nice folks. The rooms at the El Castillo are all ocean view with an island and beach club just off shore as well. I highly recommend this exquisite property.

Room tip: All rooms have the same spectacular view. Family members were in a separate room which was just as comfortable and well kept as ours.
