We were travelling back to Caen from southern France and decided to treat ourselves to a stopover to break up the journey. The Hotel is REALLY gorgeous - a beautiful old building set in fantastic grounds, with gardens, and the most amazing metal sculptures as you head up the drive. Our room was a mezzanine set up with a double and a single upstairs and a double on the first level. It was really roomy for my husband and I and the two kids, with lovely comfortable beds. The view over the garden and out towards the see from the balcony was idyllic and having access to a little kitchette would have been extremely useful had we been staying longer. The pool was also very welcome after a long days drive.
I would definitely visit the hotel again but this time would plan ahead more - unfortunately the restaurants menu, although mouthwatering, was no good for our rather picky children, so we ended up driving into Pornic and taking pot luck with the restaurants on the harbour there. We found something reasonable and had a pleasant evening, but a little more planning would probably have given a better result! My only other criticism was the lack of air conditioning. The rooms became extremely hot at night, particularly in the first level bedroom where the only option was to open the French doors, which we didn't do as it didn't feel...We were travelling back to Caen from southern France and decided to treat ourselves to a stopover to break up the journey. Portable air conditioning units would therefore be a very welcome addition to this wonderful hotel.
The breakfast was very nice but again a little too posh for our kids who really just wanted some basic cereal and maybe some toast and jam!More
