Owner description: In a beautiful valley of the river Frome, on the border between Wiltshire and Somerset and only nine miles from Bath, stands the remains of Farleigh Hungerford Castle. Started in the 14th century, it still has much for visitors to enjoy and provides a great day out for families with children, couples and even walkers enjoying the beautiful surrounding countryside.

A sunny Friday afternoon seems like a great time to visit. There was a handful of other visitors but plenty of space to not get in each others way. The audio guide was interesting and added significantly to the visit.

Apart from the damaged towers which are impressive, the chapel and crypt were fascinating. The St George painting is fabulous and the coloured tombs.

Then a picnic on a grassy spot beneath the tower finished off an interesting couple of hours.

This place was really great. Unfortunately we arrived before they opened and had to continue on to Bath. A farmer stopped by and told us we can just walk on the path and in. We did and it was marvelous. This was our first ruins as it was our first day out of London and it was amazing.

There is so much to see at Farleigh Castle, which towers forbiddingly over the village. Run by English Heritage the history of a bygone era can be rediscovered. Jousting and mock battles are sometimes enacted there too

This castle is well worth a visit. If you take the headphones it adds to the info & the stories about the residents are interesting.

Had been meaning to visit for a long time, having driven past on several occasions. The audio tour was excellent and very informative. Would definitely recommend it.
