“Beautiful house in lovely gated setting close to gorgeous village.”
Reviewed 21 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

My husband & I, along with another couple, stayed at Claire's lovely house for 6 nights. Claire was there to meet us, she had the house warmed up, fresh flowers on the table & everything we could need was there to use. The house has an elevator, which made it very easy for one of our party with reduced mobility. The house is furnished in a mixture of beautiful antiques, along with comfortable, modern beds. The local village boasts wonderful restaurants & was well located for our travels around Normandy. Internet was a bit of an issue, service only available near Claire's house, she is trying to sort this out though.

“Wow! Beyond Expectations!”
Reviewed 24 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We recently returned from a lovely European vacation and had the opportunity to stay at this beautiful home, on the grounds of the family estate in the Normandy region of France, for four nights. I traveled with my husband and our three teens, ages 19, 17 and 15. The house, the adorable village, the lovely and gracious host, all made this one of the best rental experiences I have ever had.

To begin, the house is even better than pictured. It is located within a walled estate property, typical of the area in France. There is the main estate residence, then the guest villa where we stayed, and two other smaller buildings under interior renovation. The guest villa where we stayed is amazing. It has three very large bedrooms upstairs. There are two bedrooms with queen sized (US) beds and the master bedroom with a large and comfortable king bed. The children shared the two bedrooms and a large shared bathroom with an oversize tub. The master bedroom is very large and has a small twin bed as well. The master bathroom is spacious, with tile floors, a travertine shower and everything is new. The house is immaculate. The linens, pillows, bedding were all immaculate, new and freshly ironed and perfect. Overall, this is a very large home, maybe 1,800 square feet. Oh, and even has an elevator!

The downstairs of the villa has the kitchen with dining table, then another bathroom and a large dining room and beautiful living room. The house overall was exceptional. It has a gourmet kitchen with everything one would want to cook or bake. The owners are in the antique business so the entire villa is furnished with gorgeous french antiques, paintings and decor. In terms of rating the amenities and luxuries of the villa - five stars! It was beyond nice. Truly deluxe.

The villa is on the grounds of the estate with all kinds of beautiful flowers, trees and a large lawn. You have a private patio with french doors opening to the large lawn and the rest of the estate. It was serene, peaceful and relaxing. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Claire's son, who is from Paris and speaks English and was able to orient us to the villa and the town. We then met Claire who is absolutely warm and lovely. She speaks some English, and we speak some French and she made us feel completely at home and welcome. She gave us some of the cider from the region as well as information on the area. Claire is a very kind person and went above and beyond to make the villa deluxe and comfortable. Claire lives in the main residence with her husband and you will see them in the garden or on the estate grounds. Their main residence is just incredible and has the classic Normandy tudor style of design. I felt honored to stay on the property of this lovely family who graciously opened their villa for our stay.

When I booked the reservation initially on Trip Advisor, I had read a review that mentioned the utilities/gas as extra. During my communication before arrival, I asked Claire about this so I would know what to expect and she advised that it would be less than 50 euro. I thought this was fine because it is not unusual in France to pay additional for gas, electricity. When we prepared to depart, I asked Claire about the final charge and she kindly said, no charge, my gift to you. I thought this was very kind and we were appreciative, especially since we were the ones who felt honored to stay on their estate. It was a true pleasure to meet Claire and her family as she was warm, welcoming and an excellent host. If you do want to book this property, Claire may communicate in French. It was simple for me to copy the text, go to Google translate and then write back and I would suggest this for easier communication.

One thing I learned about the town of Pont L'Eveque, it is very French speaking and not touristy, which I LOVE. The town was out of a storybook dream. From the villa, you walk one block to downtown and you come to a creperie! Then within two blocks - you have everything your french-loving heart desires... the boulangerie, patisserie, chocolatier... the bakery, desserts, butcher, coffee, chocolate shop, oh.. and the cheese store... so many cheeses! Then the vegetable store... It was my dream and I seriously would consider moving to this adorable town. Every morning, our son walked one block and brought back fresh croissants for breakfast. We ate lunch and dinner in the town of Pont L'Eveque and had some of the best meals of our trip. We enjoyed authentic French home-cooking, desserts and outdoor cafes. We found friendly people in the town (but they do not speak as much English, so brush up on your French or bring a dictionary.) Everyone we met was kind and patient as we tried to order meals, buy fruits, and we never did figure out the word for 'kale.'

Pont L'Eveque was very convenient for visiting all the sites of the Normandy region. We did the D-day tours from Bayeux, a day trip to Mont St. Michel, Caen, and the quaint seaside town of Honfleur, which is about 15 minutes away. You can spend your days sightseeing, then return to the beautiful villa, enjoy a glass of wine on the outdoor patio overlooking the large lawn and garden, then walk to the best restaurants and then sleep in a cozy large, romantic bedroom.

One of the other reviewers mentioned Wifi. The main residence has Wifi and the connection to the villa is strong only when sitting on the patio outside. I was actually happy to tell my teens sorry, no Wifi, but they quickly found out, they can easily get Wifi on the patio. Claire is so accommodating that I would imagine, they will add another wifi connection to the villa in the near future. Claire is a host who truly cares about her guests and making sure they are more than comfortable.

Claire's villa had everything one could want in a vacation rental. A deluxe quality home, a beautiful French authentic village and a setting on the estate grounds that was truly gorgeous. We had such a good time and I highly recommend this villa. It was an honor and a pleasure to experience staying in this villa and we hope to return again soon. If you have any questions about the villa or the area, you can contact me via Trip Advisor. I have to say, in my opinion, some of the previous reviews are not accurate. I am an experienced traveler, work in the corporate events/travel industry and know that this villa is a true gem. Anyone who has the fortunate opportunity to stay here will be delighted. I highly recommend.

“Great house but no WiFi”

There are pros and cons. Pros:the house is big, with very nice furnishings; the bedrooms are a little larger than normal; the master suite is wonderful; the other bathroom is on the large side; the fridge is big; there is an elevator that we did not use. The cons: despite advertising WiFi, there was none, which was a major inconvenience; I would NOT have picked the house if I knew that; the owner offered her house computer if there was an emergency; the owner tried to charge for water and electricity, despite the fact that our contract quoted $0.00 for that item (I have rented about 15 places in France in summertime, and I have never been charged); construction was underway on two other old houses that the owners have on the complex; while English was listed as a spoken language, it was not (my wife is fluent in French which definitely helped, especially with the dispute over utilities).

“Very Happy!”
Reviewed 31 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Fantastic house in a great location.
Very well equipped kitchen.
Plenty of room in lounge/dining area.
The lift was a lifesaver for my post ankle op mother, also great for getting bags in and out!
Beautiful grounds.
Secure gated property, locked at night (we were given keys for gate).
For a family of 5 adults and 1 baby, utilities (electricity/water) cost €50. Very fair, owner makes no profit on utilities.
Would recommend to friends and definitely visit again.
Lovely owner always nearby should she be needed.

“Great Property - Beware Rip-Off Owner”
Reviewed 9 March 2015 for a stay in June 2014

We stayed in this property last year and spend a wonderful 7 days there as it made a erfect base for exploring the region.

Our holiday was soured by the fact that on departure the owner demanded £240 for gas and electricity. This cost was completely unexpected and for a 7 day family stay this seemed exorbitant, particularly as we had been outmost of the time and used barely any gas / electricity. The owner came up with a price per unit off the top of their head.

A great property, great location, but bad taste left by rip-off owner.
