You have the choice between a traditional (in the original Hotel) or a new room (in the new annexe). We stayed in the traditional house and the room was nice, big with terrace.
It's not anymore very new but clean and friendly. If you like a big silence, that is the right place; but consider the prices. They are rather high. The surroundings are beautiful, much green and very good possibilities for hiking. You are in the Black Forest region.
Wifi is not excellent in the rooms!

Room Tip: Rooms opposite the nentrance are the quietest.

We spent a weekend together with our friend in Breggers Schwanen. We had room 109. The room is nice and the bathroom as well. Even if room is towards the street it is mostly quite. As I'm not a big SPA fan I can only comment about the pool. The temperature of the water was fine, the lenght ok - but for a keen swimmer to short.
We enjoyed twice dinner in the Schwanen. The quality was very good and the service very friendly. The waiter was very knowledgable about the wine list and he was a fun chap. There was litle room for improvement. The made a large table for us, but not all table had the same height (1 - 2 cm). The plastic cooler about a nice bootle of wine looked a little cheap, I would prefer a ice bucket. The breakfast is of good qualiy and choice.
And don't forget the nice Schwarzwald area. It is really nice to hike in that area.

I can only reiterate the offer excellent reviews. This is a perfect location for hiking and getting away from it all, and the food, rooms and warm hosting are just what is required to relax afterwards. We visited with foodie relatives, and they were very impressed by the food provided, particularly on the gala dinner.

It would be nice if the rooms could be made darker with thicker curtains, but that minor quibble didn't detract from our stay.

Our package included 3 days/2 nights (breakfast + lunch snacks + dinner + 30 min. massage).

- Reception: very efficient and very kind. Checkin-in/out was fast. All our documents were ready at our arrival and the kind lady at the Reception nicely took us up to our room.

- Room: "Hochtal- Zimmer Gartenseite" wooden charming. Big, clean and operational.
(WIFI ok, a little slow),

- SPA: 1 Hammam, 2 Saunas with a fantastic view (massage was very good and professional), resting areas.

- Gastronomy: this is THE big plus of the hotel.
- Breakfast with all fresh salty (ham, sausages, eggs, fish....) and sweet (fruits, yoghourt, cereals, ...) stuffs, bread, cheese, ...
- Lunch snack : very large choice of cold food (fish, meat, salads...) .
- Dinner : you can choose between several starters, soups, main courses, deserts. All dishes are high quality, fresh, well cooked

- Many free parking lots outside

We recommend this hotel for a stay to visit the Black Forest and for hiking around.

There is no point in repeating the other most positive reviews of this hotel. In my (and my wife's) view Bregger's Schwanen can only be rated ten out of ten in every respect, whether service, pool and saunas, the food (!), or the rooms.
Instead, I decided to write my review in English for all those travel(l)ers who feel more at ease with an assessment in their native tongue.

Bernau is situated in the Southern Black Forest, just south of its highest mountain, the Feldberg (1493 m). Bernau's inhabitants live in eight small villages, spread throughout the Bernau Hochtal, which I think is the most beautiful high-lying valley in the entire Black Forest. It has tempted my wife and me back again and again after we discovered it and the Schwanen in the late 1960s. We only had a meal at the Schwanen then, but we have come back for short stays at the hotel over the last forty-odd years, always enjoying its unfailing quality.
Furthermore, I would like to stress a point that has been left out in all the other reviews. We returned to the Schwanen again and again, because it is a place where we feel aware of a strange but compelling unity of hotel and landscape. Bregger's Schwanen seems to embody the spirit of the Black Forest in a most unique way. This feeling has become even stronger since the handsome addition to the historic Schwarzwaldhaus has been completed. Its Hochtal-Zimmer Talseite look out over the spectacular scenery of the valley and imbue the guest with a feeling of being intimately linked with the surrounding landscape. This feeling is reinforced by the traditional natural building materials: the whole building is from wood and glass. It makes you feel as if the essence of the Black Forest was alive inside its walls. In short: Staying at Bregger's Schwanen means living in complete harmony with the natural beauty of the Black Forest.

Room Tip: You should book a Hochtal-Zimmer Talseite (in the new building) or a Landhauszimmer (in the traditional Schwarzwaldhaus). They offer the most beautiful views.
