Mancotta Chang Bungalow is a beautifully restored British Raj-era plantation manager's bungalow in the middle of tea gardens . It is ideal for people looking to escape from hectic and noisy urban life .
It is a small place with 4 very comfortable rooms ( the two on the first floor are huge as well ) and nice verandahs where you can put your feet up and rejuvenate your eyes looking at the tea gardens . The staff is very attentive and the food is wholesome and tasty .
Since the owners are tea planters , you will get a quick education on how tea is grown and manufactured . It also serves as a good staging point for Arunachal Pradesh , Nagaland and the rest of Upeer Assam . The owners also offer riding holidays .
Overall , a definite must unless you are looking for action of the city kind.

I spent two nights at the wonderful Mancotta Chang Bungalow, and it quickly became one of my all-time favorite places! The rooms (I stayed on the top floor) have been beautifully restored, while still retaining their historic character. The service and food were first rate, and a traveler can easily spend qualtiy time here sipping tea on the porch while looking out at the surrounding tea plantation. If you happen to be in the Dibrugarh area in eastern Assam, do yourself a favor and spend a night or two here!

We stayed here as a start to our holiday in Assam. Its a great property, a former tea managers property. It lies within a tea garden so there are places to go and walk. Accomoodation and food was good, a place to get away from the noise and dirt of India

Assam is not for the tourist. It is for the seasoned traveller. Remote from the rest of India, it has a special charm of its own. But don't expect to see many Europeans - if any.

After a brilliant 7-night cruise along the Brahmaputra with the Assam Bengal Navigation Company we finished in Dibrugah, and stayed in the Mancotta Chang Bungalow. And it was fabulous. We had a huge bedroom, a dressing room, massive bathroom-toilet (western toilet), two large sunrooms, a sitting room, dining room and balcony!

The bungalow is on stilts, and well over 100 years old. Why stilts, you ask? Becuase it made it easier to mount your elephant!

The food was superb - silver service restaurant quality, and served with all the style of a restaurant.

The place is situated on the edge of a massive tea garden, and we walked around the adjacent villages, discovering an India from a bygone era. The well maintained garden is gorgeous.

It was romantic, luxurious and wonderful. And I couldn't fault it in any way.

Mancotta Chang Bungalow is simply a slice of heaven - for those willing to go the distance. I have pics if people want to see them, but have not as yet downloaded them. Just contact me on johnm@adam.com.au
