First, to the hosts...thank you.
The review : coming from Kiess we drove to John O'GROATS, hacked around, enjoyed the sights,on to Thurso for a snack and then the space trip begins. Once the climb begins to the North coast highlands, into the clouds breasted by landforms inspiring middle Earth you will decend to the fertile coastal valleys only to be greeted and warmly welcomed by what can only be described as a super host. Our accommodation was a large room with an updated private bath, spotless and brimming with all the right stuff. We sampled the menu both nights expectations were well exceeded. That steak pie was BANGIN ! Don't get me started on the pub, let's just say that the genuine spirit of the area resides there. The lads make the experience. Best memories of a 40 day march from the top of the UK to the bottom. Oh yea, there is a world class surfing beach out back.

rainy days and the six of us got there late so we couldn't choose much for dinner but it was enjoyabe anyway and breakfast was very good. steve and karen are welcoming and chatty, the room and bathroom are renewed and cozy, the area and the beach very quaint. unfortunately i didn't meet the dog but i was told by one of us he's friends with the three neighbour dogs and waits for them to go strolling together <3

I cannot understand all the great reviews of this place. I thought it was rather grim and quite inhospitable. The whole place is tired and a bit smelly - old and doggy. Bedding was old and not too clean. A huge negative contrast to the other places we stayed on the NC500 but charging the same prices. If I were you I would give it a miss.

Hi, thank you for talking the time to write another review on a different platform.

Again, we are sorry that you were so unsatisfied with your stay.

Our rating and honest reviews from other travellers are fully understandable, the fact that you found our establishment to be grim is quite upsetting. We have put a lot of effort into updating and renovating our home and our rooms are of a very high standard.

Our bed linen is changed and cleaned everyday and we are surprised you found our linen old.

We always make sure that our guests are fully satisfied with their stay but as you did not raise any concerns during your stay, there is nothing we could've done to brighten your experience.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your tour,

Farr Bay Inn

We stayed in this hotel on our NC500 Trip. It's a very small Hotel but it was the best stay we had on the whole trip! The hosts were very nice, helpful and very caring about their guests and they also have some good chats with you! The rooms are very clean and comy! The food is great - I had a full scottish for breakfast and a steakpie for dinner! There is also a small Pub within the hotel - great place to spend you evening.
This hotel is a must on your NC500 trip. I'd go there again anytime!

Stayed here with friends on the last night of our Lands End to John O Groats cycle ride. The landlord (Steve)was very helpful, secured our bikes when we arrived and had them out waiting for us in the morning. We were keen to get an early start and Steve got up to make sure we had everything we needed for a continental breakfast and hot drink well ahead of the normal breakfast time. The food was very good indeed, as was the beer.Friendly locals, highly recommended and good value too.
