I stayed here for 2 weeks doing a work-away type of exchange and I could have easily stayed the whole summer! Stylianos and Mrs. Dimitra are incredibly helpful, hospitable and friendly people who will go out of their way to accommodate you. From their shot of Lemoncello as soon as you check-in, really affordable huge breakfast and laundry service, the occasional home cooked meal they provided for long-term guests - you are sure to feel like home. Plus, the roof- where you can spend the evening cooking a meal then enjoying it as you watch the sun set over the sea. This was a relatively new (2 months open) hostel while I was there so I am excited to see all the beautiful updates they will be making to the place to make the atmosphere even more enjoyable and the stay for guests even more comfortable. The guests tend to be very social and many people go out together to live music in town or to the nearby tourist attractions and beaches which you can get to very easily by bus. Kissamos is a beautiful place to be if you want more of a low-key taste of the 'local' Cretan life. Enjoy the sun, enjoy the raki and enjoy LIFE... until next time beautiful Kissamos... xx

I stayed at this hostel for nearly ten days in August and was extremely happy with the friendliness of the staff and the perfect location for which to travel to Elafonissi (1 hour away bus), Balos Beach (2 hours away boat), or Falassarna ( 20-30 min away bus, where I went nearly every day).

It's really convenient because it's right across from the bus stop and the Cafe 51 next door has amazing iced coffee! The dorm beds are clean and comfy and the lockers are big and the bathrooms are clean. They give you a fresh towel every day and the little old lady there is so sweet and helpful with everything even though she doesn't speak much English. She's adorable.

The only thing is it says AC in every room, which is NOT really true, so it's a bit hot in the night sometimes. There is one huge AC unit in the big dormitory which helps a bit, but if you need something really cool, this won't work for you. They do have lots of fans so most of the time I was comfortable but sometimes I was honestly way too hot in the nights. Like most hostels, bring ear plugs if you are very sensitive to noise.

Overall, wonderful family run place and perfect budget hostel. Stylos is great and also the girls who work at the reception are so helpful with excellent recommendations for places to go and eat, drink, etc. I really hope they get a lot more business over time as Kissamos is really fantastic if you want to chill and avoid the crowds but want to go to the paradise beaches easily. Since the hostel is small, it's easy to meet people as well. I would highly recommend this place as long as you don't' need excellent AC (which some people do. Usually, I do, but I was on a super budget this trip). :)

Room Tip: If you need AC, get private rooms not dorm.

Hostel Stylianos is the perfect place for a backpacker or solo traveler to stay if they want to explore the beautiful beaches that the west of Crete has to offer. The hostel is located just across the road from a bus stop with frequent and affordable buses to the stunning beaches of Falassarna and Elafonisi. The Balos lagoon and Gramvousa island is also easily reachable from here. The hostel is filled with travelers from all over the world and there is a very open and social vibe making it easy to meet new people and friends. The hostel mama may not speak much english but she is so sweet and kind and tries her best to make sure all of her "adopted hostel kids" are happy. The hostel has quite thin walls and is very open and light making it quite difficult to sleep with all the noise. There is a fully equiped kitchen and a roof garden with a panoramis sea view. The staff are really friendly and happy to help you with information or just in grouping people together for a fun night out. Kissamos is a lively city in August with many evenings of traditional Cretan music and a Culture festival within walkable distance.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and think that it is a really affordable option for young travelers.

Each room is not airconditioned, as the 3 6-bed dormitories are seperated with thin until-the-middle walls, thus the whole (dormitories and reception/lounge) is common air, and common light. There are some fans though for the heat and a common ventilation system. With that said, all the noises can be heard, and because of the hostel being at the center of the town, it's really noisy. Also the dorms do not have tv as stated in a previous review.

Didn't see any water sports facilities except the sauna, which was okay.

The sun terrace had indeed nice view.
I asked about the private bathroom that is stated in a previous review, they told me the two double-bed rooms have one separate bathroom with shower.
In the first floor there is also a kitchen that someone can use which was cool, although I didn't use it.

The reception was not 24-hour, as stated in the previous review, though the old lady was really kind and nice, she tried her best and despite the fact that she didn't know English, we managed to understand each other pretty well!

In general I'd say it was okay, we had fun in Kissamos. But do not expect quiet sleeps!
