Comfortable, simple hotel with a good buffet breakfast prepared & served by friendly Australians as well as Greeks! Nice pool. The 'treasure trove table' by reception offering new arrivals items left behind by departing guests including sun creams, shampoos, beach mats etc is an excellent touch. Simple, clean rooms with occasional dodgy plumbing! However, some of our party were kept awake at night by those enjoying the poolside bar so you may want to request a room overlooking the road instead. It was especially galling to then be refused bar service ourselves on our last night when we wanted to have a post-dinner drink (before 11pm) as the owner was 'tired' after a' long day out on a boat trip' - with his regular returning guests You cannot operate a hotel on this basis and this is why you have been given an average rating. You either offer a bar open to all as per your description and until late or you specify that it is not always open after 10pm. When we left the following day no apology was offered and it left a nasty impression.

Room Tip: Rooms on the pool side might prevent sleep before 2am if bar is busy.

Thank you for writing a review on Tripadvisor, we appreciate and respect your comments.
However, the comments regarding being a favoured return guest are unfair and uncalled for. The return guests have kept this business afloat during the economic crisis and the boat trip that was organised was a genuine thank you from a simple family business for stopping the bank from taking our home, you and your party were invited on said boat trip but declined, 5 new rooms of guests joined us that day along with dinners out which your party were also welcome to join but did not, so we do not understand how we play favorites?. We apologise for being human, 3 of us run this 32 room hotel with 2 cleaners, that means 16hr days and no days off and were exhausted and we have closed the bar on many nights earlier as there are a vast number of drinking establishments in walking distance and guests old and new have understood. We were patient when we recieved over 26 emails from you and your daughter which resulted in a double booking when your party requested to bring food from the supermarket by the pool when we operate a bar and lunches, would you take food from one restaurant to another? we had 4 formal complaints from other guests about the way one of your party was treating the staff but we did not mention it. We are sorry a bar closing early ruined your experience.
Warm regards
Hotel Sofia

There are many reasons why the Hotel Sofia can be highly recommended - the location is great very quiet and near to good beaches and tavernas. Ultimately, though it is the warmth of the family that own and run the hotel which differentiates it, and explains why so many people return again and again.
The consideration given to guests includes offering opportunities to join the family at restaurants, and boat trips, providing opportunities to learn more about the food and culture of the island than one might otherwise. Equally one can enjoy the hotel entirely independently.
The hotel is welcoming for families, with good facilities for children, and for grown ups, including solo travellers.
If you are planning a trip to Samos, you should be planning a trip to Hotel Sofia

Ok. I've been asking myself one question. Why do I love staying at the hotel sofia in samos so much.
Tough question. Why?
There are just too many reasons. For one its idyllic, the location just blows my mind, you've got ay least a mile of beach with amazing crystal blue seas by your door, traditional tavernas serving proper greek food not the usual tourist stuff you get around the bigger islands but food the greeks eat too!
The hotel, its a family affair, very safe, very quiet, very relaxing with one of biggest pools in the area.
Relaxing at hotel sofia requires no effort. Get up for breakfast, choose sunbed, beach or both and RELAX!
The family are truly welcoming, Stavros, Sofia, Vasilis and Manoles will make you feel right at home, your new greek home. Group BBQ on a saturday, share your stories enjoy lovely home cooked food and yet more relaxing.
So why do I love Hotel Sofia in Samos so much, take your pick, for me I just love how it makes me feel.
I've been holidaying here since 2004 and have been around 18 times and god willing I will be back soon, hope to see you there

Room Tip: Big choice here, the rooms on the front of the main block face the sea, the rooms at the back face the majestic Mount Kerkis.

We booked last minute holidays and stayed in Sofia this year. This place is simply the best I have been so far - my husband and I felt as we were visiting close friends - the owners of the hotel and the staff was so friendly and welcoming! There is a wonderful patio outside with a swimming pool and a bar, the place is overall quiet and clean, the food is delicious. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Room Tip: friendly, comfortable, spacious

We have stayed several times at Sophia and this time was, as always, a delicious experience.Reviewers have written about how beautifully the family look after their guests. That is true. I have concluded that the thing that makes Sophia stand out over and above any of the hotels we have ever stayed in is the inclusive manner in which the family see to your every need.Be it inquiries about paces to see and things to do on Samos, about transport to access these sites, about tours or excursions, places to dine or shopping outlets locally or further afield, Vasilis, Nova and Manoli are always available and happy to help you out.
The grounds have been landscaped to reflect the environment where in the hotel lies. The grounds are a work of art - There are a variety of nooks where you discover seats made of local stone and a fountain, nestling amongst Samos shrubs and vines. These catch the eye and make me want to sit down and read a book in the shade of the sago palm trees fronds. There are several sitting areas under palm frond shelters and of course a bar, nestling under its leafy canopy which is the focal meeting point at any time of the day.
I have also lolled on their swing seat in the sun, between dips in the pool. Speaking of the pool - and many reviewers have - it is wonderful. Stavros keeps it immaculately clean and it has to be one of the most attractive pools I have swum in. The designer knew how to plan a pool with just the right dimensions and depths so all swimmers would be comfortable and able to swim the way they like to. There are lots of loungers around the pool with shade - also very pretty.
Finally Nova's food! The buffet breakfasts are a lovely combination of fresh local produce, Greek ham, cheese, yogurt, honey, bread, cereals and local fruits.Eggs are cooked to your taste and are the family's own 'free ranging hens' Nova makes her own cakes which range from banana, chocolate, walnut and many more - not to mention the jams she makes from the families fruits and berries.
The lunch menu is varied and again use local produce and are prepared on the spot to your order.
The Saturday night BBQ. Nova and Sophia provide salads that are exciting and new each week. I have made many notes on the flavours used in the dishes they produce and Nova is always happy to advise. Manoli and his dad Stavros cook the meat on a traditional Greek BBQ. Several meats are served, again, locally sourced and flavoursome.
The spread of food is quite amazing and seeing people go back for seconds is a testament to the skills of the chefs and the cooks.
A last word is to the cleanliness of the whole environment - inside and out are immaculate. Attention to the cleanliness of the rooms is praise worthy indeed! I have not yet seen the exterior being anything other than tidy and very pretty at all times.
Thanks again to all of you at Sophia again!! We will be back!

Room Tip: Sophia rooms are all lovely, all have views of either the sea or the amazing Mt Kerkis.
