Pavlis and his family have made a perfect spot for staying in Ormos. Best views of Ormos and if you are after something a little livlier, only 20 minutes walk to Votslakia. However - Ormos is by far much more charming with incredible tavernas. Back to the apartment! Larger than most Greek apartments - hob, fridge (with wine, milk, juice, butter... much more) as well as bread biscuits etc. Clean and enough towels and sheets for a week. Would 100% recommend and more than likely, be back again within the year. Thank you so much. Laura and Matt (room 8)

If you are looking for simple accommodation in a great position in the village, these are the studios to choose. On booking, we were disappointed to find that the rooms overlooking the pool had gone but after a few days at Pavlis we decided we preferred our room (No 6) which had views of the village, sea and the pool and was completely private which the newer ones were not.

The kitchen was well equipped and included an electric kettle which is not always the case in Greece but the only cooking facilities were two electric hot plates, no grill or toaster which we would have preferred but it did mean that yoghurt and fruit was the order of the day first thing in the morning! There was also a hair-dryer and iron should you need them, as well as a safe and air-con (both of which payable to Mr Pavlis). Downsides were the studios were only cleaned and bins emptied twice a week and the beds which were extremely hard. Plenty of hot water, always sun beds and always peaceful around the pool (no children!) apart from the occasional irritating beep of mobile messages . . .

Could not fault any of the tavernas in the village and would also recommend Christopetro – less than 10 minutes drive away towards Votsalakia (a very touristy resort – just the road running through with tavernas and bars (advertising football, English breakfasts and cocktails – horrid!). Would also recommend Psili Amonous beach – gently shelving sandy beach with one taverna/bar – you need to park on the side of the road and walk down the hill.

We stayed the first two weeks in July and it was very hot – 32 degrees at 9.00am in the morning but it did get quite windy during the day so quite deceiving.

I agree with the high scores for the Pavlis studios at Ormos, only negative comment would the absence of comfortable seating inside. I recommend paying extra for the newer apartments as the view is amazing and they don’t face the road. Ormos was a splendid town, not totally surrendered to tourism, the local supermarket is superbly stocked and open all hours. There are plenty of walks along the sea front which is backed by olive groves and orchards of oranges, lemons and pomegranates. However the beach is stony making it difficult to swim. We found that the long sandy beach at Votsalakia far better, it’s about 15 mins from Pavlis, walking along the road. We also found the restaurants better there, ‘Nick the Greek’ highly recommended.

There are two down sides of Ormos and Samos in general, firstly there is effectively no public transport from Ormos, Greek government cuts have reduced the bus service to one a day, the second is the flight, especially the return. Both the Meridana Fly (aka Small Planet), used by Sunvil, and Thompson flights serve both Samos and Lemnos, so you have to land, disembark and reboard in Lemnos on the return leg. Small Planet are Lithuanian and fly elderly 737s.

We have just returned from Ormos, we stayed in the Pavlis Studios what a fantastic place it's high up above the village so the views were astounding we stayed in the studios facing the pool studio 7 ,so we not only had great all round views but we didn't have far to go for a swim .Every evening Mr Pavlis was there to make sure the pool was kept spotless and clean .The Village itself was wonderful and very peaceful and not busy at all some days only 4 couples on the water front .All the tavernas were really good, and all served traditional Greek food .On the harbour side there were 2 boats that took you out further round the coast for swimming and lunch on the boat it cost 29 euroes but it was a great day out setting off at 10 ish and back at 6 30 ish I really can recommend this trip . All in all we had a great time and would go back .The only thing is August is the windy month and can be very strong .it does keep the heat down which helps when sun bathing .We didn't do any trips we were happy to stay in ormos ,most of the time though we did catch the bus that took to 2 other beaches ,but if you go on the bus there is only 2 a day one at 10-30 from Ormos and returned at 5-15 in the evening. The cost was cheap costing 3 euroes for 2 of us each way.

Room Tip: When i go again I will avoid August due the the strong winds

Returned last night from these studios after 1 week with Sunvil. The previous reports are very much in line with our own views. Ormos is the harbour village of Marathokampos, a bigger village in the hills above. Its a traditional Greek fishing village and tourists were thin on the ground. Pavlis is in a stunning location and most of the time it was not windy, but when it was, it was breezy ! We were in one of the older, smaller studios which we actually preferred. The balcony was completely private and the views unbeatable. They are however overlooking the road up from the village which is not busy but as in most of Greece at weekends suffers noisy bikes zipping up the hill. All tavernas were excellent. Our favourite was Lekatis but for fish the very last one heading east(sorry the name escapes me) was cheapest by far. This village has a lot of cats and it was good to see that they were generally in good condition. Kate the Sunvil rep lives nearby in Votsalakia which is known as Kambos on maps, she is very well informed. There are no ATM's in Ormos. The one supermarket is excellent. Its open all year and well used by locals so prices are good too. Not many boat trips available and due to new taxes many boats laid up. We wanted to visit Fourni Is. but not enough tourists to make it viable. We did do the trip to Samiopoula, good day out inc. lunch 35e. We have only one negative comment. The paper bin in the loo was emptied only once during our stay. Overall very pleased with the Pavlis, many repeat clients here inc. ex Laskarina guests, clearly a high level of customer satisfaction.
