We returned from our family holiday on 8th August and rated Playa Mar as 'Very Good' overall.
As always with reviews there are positive and negative aspects and Playa Mar is no different. But I must say that the hotels positives far outweigh the negatives.
On arrival we had some issues with the cleanliness of our room but this was rectified immediately.
We did book a standard one bedroom room, but I would certainly consider upgrading to superior if you can as the rooms are slightly dated. However these rooms are due to be renovated. The superior ground floor apartments are lovely and modern and have a garden and a bed with umbrella and these did look the business.
Pollenca is lovely and the beach is nice and quiet. Perfect for the family. Be aware however that the centre is a good 30 minute walk - my daughter and I picked up a bug during our stay and I walked 1hr 30 mins to the pharmacy and back in 40 degree heat, which wasn't pleasant. Still there is a very Spanish feel to the town, as opposed to the heavily populated tourist resort. This was great.
The restaurant was clean and the food choices were good. The staff were fantastic and work tirelessly.
The anamacion team are world class. Stefan and the gang always have entertainment running throughout the day and do so with flair, passion and energy. They were phenomenal with the children and adults and managed to maintain a high level of work rate despite the hours of work they do. These guys are the best I have ever seen, in particular Stefan who can sing, dance, present and act. They are honestly a world class team and the children love what they do.
I would book again at Playa Mar, but I would get a superior room, get the towels out and umbrella' s at the pool side claimed at around 730-800 am as people do snap them up. Also watch out for the wasps...there were quite a few during our stay.
Thanks Playa Mar. It was a pleasure.

We were really looking forward to coming here after reading all the good reviews, however it was a bit of a let down. We were in block 2, top floor which was overcome with a damp smell and a bad pipes smell, our room was badly in need of refurbishment and was small and a bit dirty on arrival, no way a four star hotel. The food a lot of the times was not warm enough, not cooked enough & sometimes even cold, we didnt enjoy the buffets. The pool areas were packed, you had to put your towels out in the morning early or you didnt get a sunbed & the wasps were really annoying you were flicking them away all day long. The staff & entertainment team is the hotels best asset as they were all really nice & friendly with the kids and worked hard. This was not a cheap 10 day AI holiday however it felt like a budget holiday. Sorry playa mar & spa we wont be back.

Room tip: Ask for a room thats been refurbished

The hotel is in a nice location, a 20 minute scenic walk along the Pinewalk (which is beautiful), takes you into Pollenca. Nice choice of bars, restaurants, shops, a small play park and lots of little beach areas.

The hotel check in was fast, we arrived about 1am. We were able to take some bread rolls from the restaurant and there were drinks available in reception, cava, water and apple juice. First impressions of the room were great. We had a renovated room in block 4, looking out towards the pool and the mountains. Also, a nice gesture of lollies and sweets for the kids were presented on the bed. Three small bottles of water in the fridge on arrival.

The pool area gets very busy. I dislike putting towels down early, but everybody does it here. If you wait until 8-9am, they're all gone. The splash pool is fun for the kids, also nice shallow beach effect area for little ones, leading to the deeper pool. Lots of activities going on throughout the day, so if you are looking for peace and quiet, this is not the hotel for you. During our stay, there seemed to be a huge wasp problem, they were everywhere. Also, there was cat faeces on the grass which we would get regular wafts of whilst sunbathing, not nice in the heat!

The cleaning of the rooms was one of my frustrations. By the end of our stay, all our clothing was covered in thick dust, as we walked around the room. Bed sheets don't seem to be changed regularly enough, just relaid and neatened. In my opinion, towel changes are also not done regularly enough. We had to wash our glasses in the bathroom sink as they were never changed. The rooms are lovely so it's a shame they weren't cleaned so that it felt nice throughout the whole stay.

The all inclusive was a let down in terms of the restaurant. The meat often appeared undercooked and so we avoided. My daughter had a dead fly in her pasta bolognaise. Also the plates and glasses were dirty, covered in dried on food. The restaurant is incredibly noisy and was more like a canteen. We chose to eat out in the second week. The drinks included in the all inclusive were good, as were the ice creams. The pool snack bar was ok, quite repetitive. Lots of wasps all over the food as it is sat out on trays from 12pm-2:30pm.

Entertainment team were fantastic, so enthusiastic and friendly. We had no contact with Thomson reps or kids club staff, so cannot comment.

This is a great family orientated hotel, but we didn't get value for money in terms of the all inclusive, as we ate out a lot. If the food was improved, I'd consider returning, but based on our experience, I would definitely return to the area but perhaps look at alternative accommodation.

We had been here before and went back as it is such a lovely location. Previously we were self catering. It now is all inclusive. Our room was one of the refurbished ones on the ground floor in block 3. It was really nice with a lovely outside garden with day bed table chairs etc. Only trouble is it is near the road and staff access path. This will be a bit better as the plants grow to give a bit more privacy.Otherwise really nice.
The food was very good variations and themes every night lots of fresh salads.
Children's buffet section was good and they can use main buffet also. There was a vegetarian section but I think my daughter found it a bit limited sometimes. Overall food was great. There is also a snack bar by the pool for lunch and snacks through the day . Plenty of ice creams on offer all day. The drinks were very good. Cocktails which are not always included were available and lots of Cava all day so excellent on that score. The entertainment was very good also the usual sort of thing. The hotel animation team were marvelous and very good with children and adults. There is more of an emphasis on hotel team than Thomson here so not as much of the @611 as at previous Family life resort. The indoor pool at the spa is lovely children allowed 12-4 but as it is 6ft deep not suitable for small children.Outdoor pool great for all ages.We had a great time. There were children of all ages but I would say it is a younger children's hotel. My grandaughter is 7 and would maybe go somewhere else as she gets older. That is personal opinion though this is a lovely hotel in a beautiful place.

Arrived here on the 1st August for a week. First holiday abroad for me for years and first holiday as a family of 4. Absolutely superb hotel. We stayed in block 2 which hadn't yet been refurbished but it was clean so I had no complaints. The buffet has plenty to chose from and a separate kids buffet although my two who are 5 and almost 2 were more than happy to eat from the main buffet, it's also a good way to get them to try new things.
You couldn't go hungry or thirsty here as there's something all day long.
Plenty of sun beds for everyone but it started to get busier as the school holidays kicked in. Some people did reserve sunbeds, myself included as I have a preference for shade and near the baby pools for my little ones so I could be with both. I wouldn't say you'd have to get up at silly o'clock to put a towel down, on the way to or from breakfast would be fine. Some people did hold onto a sunbed and not appear for a few hours but if you were planning an hour or two at the nearby beach in the morning you'd be unlikely to get some beds together if you have a preference which pool you wanna sit by or require full on sun or shade. Everyone is guilty of it I guess.
The staff work their socks off and do so with a smile and an eagerness to please like nothing is too much trouble. The animation team really do try and make it fun and it's nice to join in. Stefan who you'll see doing pool games and shows does a music quiz one night and if you get a chance don't miss that. It's all a bit of fun and rather easy but he can really sing. You'd be entertained if he ditched the quiz and just sung all evening. I don't think they know how talented he actually is.

Tip for the hotel would be to spend out a bit on some proper soft play apparatus and toys for the soft play room, there's hardly anything in it worth going in for.

We had a great holiday and the kids loved it. Would return if ever in pollensa again.
