The Ananyana Beach Resort & Spa
Ranked #30 of 50 Hotels in Panglao Island
Reviewed 3 April 2017

Tagbilaran Airport does not prepare the city dwelling first timer on what awaits on the island of Bohol. Landing on one runway and collecting your luggage on a tiny revolving carousel might not give you positive first impressions but it is certainly one of the tiny concessions you need to make to bring you to the next step of your adventures.

The one hour drive or shorter, to The Ananyana from Tagbilaran Airport whisks you through a myriad of places - the crazy maze of skinny streets that make up Tagbilaran City, then through cement highways driving through not-so-sleepy towns, green rice fields, before you reach Doljo, Panglao Island, off the southwestern coast of Bohol.

An unassuming white gate with a security guard welcomes you through the entryway of The Ananyana Beach Resort. The 10 room beach front property with lovely gardens, designer furnished pavilions, bamboo structures with thatched roofs that make up your guest rooms, are beautiful as they are simple.

It’s a serene and genteel escape that offers leisurely adventures or, is the best place to do absolutely nothing while you thoroughly love doing so. Doing nothing is a luxury these days. Indulge!

For dining recommendations, the resort’s well prepared menu is carefully curated to offer guests what’s available locally from produce, poultry to seafood - there is no 5 star kitchen with matching starched expatriate chef to cater to your every whim, but the warm and happy kitchen staff of The Ananyana, are ready to oblige whatever catches your fancy if its not found in print. Healthy eating is a high consideration here.

The good sized rooms are all with ensuite bathrooms, equipped with the usual creature comforts like wifi but be warned, there is no TV / Cable. But there is WiFi. The Ananyana is nirvana for those escaping from city life motion, traffic and loud ambient noise. It’s wonderful to hear one’s soul and with the sea breezes, it’s a magical personal experience. This is not a place where karaoke is on at 5 pm or muzak running through a cheap, scratchy sound system. But there might be the resident cow with a moo to break the sound of the breaking waves from the beach.

Beach bliss comes with the three-kilometre Doljo Beach. You catch your bare feet on a long stretch of white sandy beach with running breezes creating white tops on the sea. The beach is raw and shallow until you walk out towards the sea as the water gets deeper. There is a lovely pool surrounded by a wooden deck to work out a brilliant tan, stare out at the cloud formations, read a book by or immerse yourself in the pool. Arrange for a masseuse to knead away the city from whence you came, and to relax your senses while the smell of salt air waft by.

The owner, the elegant and soft spoken Ms. Emma, keeps a watchful eye on all of her guests and ensures that everyone’s needs are taken care of with attentive staff when you need them and none if you want to be alone.

For captivating experiences like diving in world class spots around the island of Bohol, swimming in a sardine run, to exploring the island to see the sights of 18th century baroque churches or inland landscapes like the Chocolate Hills, ride towards the deep sea lanes on a large outrigger boat to watch wild dolphin pods at play or to see the tiny Tarsier - all that can be arranged.

Let yourself go, for a truly peaceful getaway with sea, sand, stylishly simple interiors, great food and caring staff, there’s only one place in Bohol to go - to The Ananyana.

Room Tip: It's only a 10 room resort but all rooms are comfy. They are all quiet.

Nice intimate resort. We were a big group so we basically had the whole resort to ourselves. The service and food was great. Access to the beach is easy as it is a beachfront property. The rooms could use a bit of a sprucing as the resort is a bit old, but that won't deter me from recommending this place.

We are currently staying at the Ananyana... And even if on the paper the hotel looks nice, it's a big joke... Don't be fooled by the pretty pool area

THE BEACH : one of the main reason why you should avoid this hotel, it's discusting!!! Full of dirt, plastic bags, bottles, glass, metal..... And it's a mix of sand and mud... And a lot of seagrass (with sea urchin hidden) so you can't really swim or walk, to dirty to lay down under the sun...

- ROOM : the AC in our room makes and horrible sound, you can't sleep, the shower is the worst, either boiling or cold water, up to you ! No safe box, 1 thin towel per people, no hairdrier... For a room at this price you should have this minimum of service! Please at least a descent shower!! No this weird bamboo shower head that gives you a thin net of boiling water

- FOOD : not the best but ok if you keep it to simple choices

- STAFF : some of them are friendly, but some others feel fake, all day long they try to sell you some excursions.. Or try to hide things you shouldn't see, like the dump yard behind the kitchen... My mother walked on a sea urchin, she asked for alcohol to clean up the wound, they didn't even had first aid kit, they put lemon on it... The owner is here on holiday with her family but she didnt' even introduce herself even when walking just near us, like she is hidding..and it's not a big resort!

ANIMALS : finally one of the main reason why i'm disgusted by this place, they have dogs, and they tie them with a very short leash next to the dump yard behind the kitchen... The puppy had the rope so tight around his neck, he couldn't even swallow properly, no water, under the sun, and seems that he's like this 80% of the day..it's his cries that brought us there!

So big advice and money saver, strongly avoid this place, it's very poorly managed and the quality of the service is deplorable... They're totally incompetent, even if some of the staff where really sweet.. (actually just one of them, the others seemed really hypocrite, you can feel that they really don't care about you)

The Ananyana Beach Resort &a Spa is located Panglao island Bohol. I'm not one for big resort hotels, there's just too many people. Ananyana has a very friendly staff and very personalized service. Not to mention great food! And in case it gets too quiet for you, it's a short scooter ride to Alona beach for some night life.

If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and unwind, whether it be alone or with a significant other. Ananyana is a special place and one of my favourites.

We stayed here with our family recently. I was not blown away by the accommodation... they rooms are very average. The whole building is a bit old and run down. The pool doesn't look very nice, it has dark charcoal coloured tiles so you can't really see the water. The landscaping at the resort is pretty non existent. However the staff and the food were fantastic, although a little slow...but thats "island time." Would I recommend it? No, probably not. But then again I was much more blown away by other parts of The Philippines... Bohol isn't that nice... Sorry Bohol!
