We've just returned from a week long stay at The Byre, overlooking Loch Ness. The accommodation is spacious (much roomier than it looks on the pictures) and has good quality furnishings. Although the furniture isn't set out in such a way to make the most of the view, we just turned the smaller of the sofas around to face the glass doors which made a lovely spot to sit looking at the loch (too cold to sit on the patio)....The view is panoramic over the loch and changed rapidly with the changes in the weather.
Turn right out of the courtyard and then take the first left for an alternative and stunning route in to Inverness.
The Dores Inn is also worth visiting for a meal. They offer a free shuttle bus service but you must ask for this when you book your table.

We came with my parents who wanted to visit the battlefield in Inverness. This was a great place to stay- about a 5 min drive to Loch Ness. The fire place was lovely to curl up in front of in the evening. We drove to Tesco- about a 10 min drive, and got groceries to make our meals (kitchen supplies provided). Remember to bring coins as you will need to keep the meter topped up for electricity.

Stayed at The Byre over New Year and it couldn't have been better. Thank you Iain for accomodating us (and Toby). The Byre is a lovely place with stunning views. Exceptional and highly recommended! We loved loch ness and the surrounding area and will definitely be going back.
We will definitely be booking The Byre again!

We stayed at The Byre, Dores, Inverness in March 2015 - an immaculately converted barn run by a courteous, refreshingly quietly spoken Mr Iain Cameron. This is a truly outstanding location. We will remember it with admiration and love.

Around 10pm in March, we were sitting quietly outside, enjoying the velvet black skies and so many stars (!) when my husband suddenly pointed to the far side of the Loch - we could see the Northern Lights! This was absolutely heart-stopping and we were totally unprepared for this, it was truly a once in a lifetime sight. We just watched in silence - it was something really magical, like green wisps, all lit up, dancing high, high up in the air. It was totally incredible, a shared precious memory which will stay with us forever.

We drove home the next day - still gibbering with wonder about our precious sight of the Northern Lights! (Add to that a RED squirrel, a fabulous walk along the Loch, seeing the Eclipse and a lovely meal in The Dores Inn).

We recommend The Byre, for the memorable location, very comfortable accommodation and warmth of the local people to stay for a peaceful, uplifting, self-catering special holiday.
