We stayed at Makayla Palms for 10 night in the October school holiday this year and as usual when leaving Raro we wanted to stay longer. Having been to the island numerous times over the last 30 years I have seen many changes especially in Muri Beach where the road front has been overdeveloped looking like a mini Bali though the night food market is a welcome addition.
Titikaveka Beach is fantastic, the snorkeling right in front of MP is very good and you can have the beach to yourself most of the time apart from the friendly local dogs who are happy to take you for a walk or come and sit in the shade with you for a short visit.

We stayed in Villa Tia closest to the beach and found it very comfortable and perfect for us. John and Rachel were very helpful and sorted out the issue we had with the hot water as soon as they were able. The gardens are very well kept and after meeting and talking with Nga a local planting kumara next door we were taken to his plantation for a tour and given fresh fruit every day afterwards. We used the scooter while staying which was great for getting round the island, down to Muri etc. Our favourite "local" restaurant was Vaima where the food was amazing and had the bonus of a pick up and drop off service at night. Highly recommended also was Charlies which serves huge portions which are enough for 2 in most cases.
I can highly recommend this place and hope to visit again soon.

Thanks so much for your review especially from someone who has visited the island many times before. Yes Titikaveka beach is fantastic with wonderfully safe snorkeling, swimming and kayaking. Of course as you say, the bonus is that you mostly have the beach to yourselves. We recommend Charlie's and Vaima so were very pleased to read that both were highly recommended by you too.
We look forward to your next visit

The three of us stayed at the villa Tiana for 5 nights this past October to celebrate my sister’s 50th birthday, and we all agreed that we couldn’t have find a better place to stay than the Makayla Palms. As we drove around Rarotonga and enjoyed the island, we saw a wide range of accomodations, and quite frankly it was a delight to get back to our villa every day. Rachel’s welcoming sense of hospitality is warm, courteous, always helpful without being intrusive. Her baking goods were so yummy, the villa and the gardens kept impeccably clean. She even arranged a ‘ei’ and a crown of fresh flowers for my sister’s special Island night out. The beach and the lagoon were so enchanting; in fact we had the beach to ourselves most of the time!!! I already miss my sunrise walks on Titikaveka beach every morning. Snorkelling was amazing; what’s left to say? Thank you Rachel for having us....we would definitely come back to the Makayla Palms when we return to the Cook Islands. Highly recommended.

We can thoroughly recommend Makayla Palms for a truely relaxing holiday. Our villa was clean and fully equipped for self catering but we also enjoyed the safety of knowing Rachel and John were onhand with friendly local advice - and homebaking. The gardens are truely beautiful complete with fresh fruit and herbs, and what a treat to often have the best swimming and snorkelling beach to ourselves. It was easy to hire scooters and visit nearby cafes and shops. It was sad to leave and we will be back

This was our second trip to Titikaveka Beach and our first stay at Makayla Palms. We stayed for 12 nights and it passed all too quickly as always. The accomodation was perfect, location spectacular (we rate Titikaveka as the best spot on Rarotonga) and we were looked after by the great team of Grace, Loving and Fred. They were very helpful whilst at the same time being respectful of our privacy. On hand if we needed something or some advice. Most evenings we used the BBQ and ate outside buying fish, meat and produce locally picking herbs from Fred's herb garden. Standouts were the tuna steaks and passion fruit. The bungalow was clean and bright with attention having been given to guests needs, with DVD's, welcome pack of wine and home baking, fruit basket, books, games, snorkelling gear etc. Nice shower. The snorkelling is simply spectacular and the beach less than a minutes walk. My husband hired a bicycle in Muri and enjoyed his cycle around the Island which took less than 3 hours. The location was very peaceful but we were slightly unlucky with the weather which was quite windy at times. Overall a wonderful relaxing holiday and we will be back.

This was our first time to Makayla Palms and we will definitely be going back. John
and Rachael are amazing hosts. We had everything we needed at our fingertips.
Our villa was beautifully decorated, very clean and well stocked. We didn't have to go far to enjoy the beach a minutes walk from our villa. We had the pleasure of using the kayaks and a vehicle when needed. The staff where all very friendly and very helpful, always smiling. We where shown so many amazing sights and where truly in awe of the amazing sights/food and lovely people. John and Rachael 'you guys rock' thank you so much for making this an amazing holiday.

Room Tip: Both rooms where beautiful and well positioned.
