On 19th March , 2020 , I wanted to visit Vriddha Badri from Blue Poppy Resort , Auli . Any other driver would have taken me to the entrance of the Vriddha Badri mandir ( 1380 m ) at Animath village , 7 km from Joshimath on Auli Rd , Joshimath Army Area , from which I had to ascend to the mandir and descend to the parking place . But my driver , Rai Singh took me to a point on the road and told me to descend to reach the mandir and then further descend to a point where he would pick me up . Looking to my age he guided me to a way where I had not to climb .
In the Vriddha Badri mandir the idol of Lord Vishnu looks like as an old man .
It is believed that Naradji did his penance to please Lord Vishnu . Pleased with the penance of Narada , He appeared as an old man and blessed Narada . Hence the name of this mandir is Vriddha ( old ) Badri ( Lord Vishnu aka Badrinath ) .
Timings : 0600 to 1800
Structure of the ANCIENT TEMPLE is like other tipical UTTRAKHAND style, One of SAPTA/PANCHA BADRI temples. 5 m up hill. A holy place.
Small but beautiful temple. You can visit this for a nice time without lot of people around you to disturb
Vridh Badri is an all inclusive part of the Badrinath pilgrimage. Not many people know about it and in a mystical way its helping in maintaining the sanctity of the place.
Vridha Badri OR Vridh Badri is a small temple located in a village called Animath. It's around 7 to 8 km from Joshimath and falls on the way to Kalpeshwar Mahadev Temple. As per the locals, there are 5 Badri (Panch Badri) and Vridh Badri is one of them. The other places which constitute the PanchaBadri include:
- Badri Vishal OR Badrinath
- Adi Badri
- Bhavishya Badri
- Yoga Badri
As per the legend, once sage Narada performed penance at this place. Lord Vishnu appeared before Narada in the guise of an old man. It is also believed that Lord Badri resided at this place (Village Animath) before Kalyuga. Since the lord appeared in form of an old man, therefore the temple got its name Vridh (Old) Badri.
To reach the temple, one needs to walk around 10 min. Its a pretty small village and the lane to the temple is quite narrow and you would be crossing some home to reach the temple. The temple is also very small and you can easily complete this place in 30 minutes (including the walking time).
Love to go again to Badri vishal . We were there with our family first time and we really enjoyed a lot
