Echo the other positive reviews. Burg Liebenstein was charming, clean, friendly, easy to find, and a great value for a castle on the Rhein. Some of the staff spoke English, and all were patient with my German. Group of 3 friends spent 2 nights in Sept-- the first night we had two rooms with a "yard" view, the 2nd night both rooms had river views. Yes, the staircase to some of the rooms is small, crooked and cramped, but that is part of the charm. Breakfast was ok, only bread, meats and cheeses (no fruit, cereals or yogurt). Dinner in the restaurant was very good, typical German fare. Resident goats settled in on the hill around dinnertime each night (staff fed them bread leftovers from breakfast). Quiet, peaceful location with fantastic views, hiking trails, and another castle to explore next door. Free parking, easy to find by car, steep uphill by foot. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Water pressure and hot water in shower were hit-or-miss. Payment was in cash only. Overall a great stay. Would recommend.

For our first Castle-Hotel experience...we couldn't have gotten any luckier! What a fabulous overnight stay we had...we enjoyed walking and climbing around the castle grounds, the views made for some gorgeous memorable photos, even though we couldn't really communicate with the lady runnin' the show there, she was warm and friendly and we had a blast just attempting to communicate with one another!

Now our room... wow. It was like stepping back into time. Beautiful canopy bed, interesting, beautiful pieces of furniture and wall hangings. Oh the view! Seriously...there are no words to quite describe the view.

The food was great...the whole atmosphere was quiet and peaceful and I can't tell you how refreshing it is to be in a hotel with no TV, no telephone, no wireless internet acess... I hope to go back again one day... in the meantime, I'll just keep insisting everyone drop what they're doing and explore the Rhine River area and stay at Castle Liebenstein!

We were only there for a day, but this is a great place in an incredible location. Beautiful, quiet, good food. The proprietors are very friendly! Our only discrepancy was that when I called the hotel, I was was quoted a 215e price. We went online and secured a 115e double room price. I called back and confirmed the 115e price, however, we weren't able to print the confirmation sheet at our location at the time. That was a mistake, because we got the 215e room. It was still quite worth it though. Canopy bed, windows overlooking the Rhine River and the burg just down the road. It's so close to the river cruise lines also.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for two nights and were pleasantly surprised in a number of respects. You are constantly reminded that you are staying in an ancient castle because of the narrow winding stairs, the uneven floors and ceilings and the general atmosphere that prevails. However you also get many of the luxuries of a more modern hotel including large comfortable beds, excellent ensuite bathroom facilities, superb food and attentive staff. The views down to the river Rhine from the eating areas are unbeatable.

I would highly recommend this hotel to most people because of its unique combination of ancient history/atmosphere and modern luxuriousness. I only say most people because the narrow winding stairs and uneven floor surfaces might be too much for some people on account of frailty or physical disabilities. Also the room and food prices are very reasonable and represent excellent value for money in my opinion. A final word of warning in that this castle sits atop a very long and steep hill that makes for a challenging walk, therefore it is best to arrive by car.

Cheapest way to stay in a castle on the rhine valley. It may not be on the touristy sides of Sankt Goar but it has a view that’s hard to beat. You get the view of a valley from your room and watch the sunset over the horizon. All this for 140EU for a 1bedroom suite with breakfast included. Now, that’s a deal! I’ve included pictures so you can see the attention to detail that is paid on the rooms. If you plan on driving to Marksburg to visit their castle, i would highly recommend staying here. It is however out of the way if you plan to do most of the touring on the other side.

The food was also surprisingly good – make sure you order the grill special (19.5Eu). Sufficient for two people to share :)

the stairwells are bound not to pass fire standards but its also quite an adventure climbing up those rickety steps to your room in the tower. Gives you a small sense of what it must have felt like living in a castle during the medieval times. I highly recommend staying in a castle as accommodations of choice in the Rhine.
