“Small and sweet, a real cosy cottage”

We needed a base for 2 days, near the Radipole RSPB reserve in Weymouth. Upwey Cottage was the answer! Compact, comfortable, with good wifi and efficient heating, we were very pleased with our stay. The cottage 'instructions' were clear, and Samantha, the owner, helpful and communicative. The cottage is on a quiet, single track road just off a B road that takes you into the old Weymouth harbours, passing a Marks and Spencer garage. Everything is easy and quick to access by car. There are plenty of restaurants, a working harbour and a busy sea-front in Weymouth, so plenty to do. 2 RSPB reserves are nearby, Lodmore and Radipole Lakes. You can see kingfishers at Radipole - if you are patient!

“Great location!”

We stayed in Upwey Cottage with our two children (3 and 17 months) in early July and had a wonderful time.

As others have mentioned the location is excellent; really handy for the many local attractions and with all required local amenities only a short drive away.

The wi-fi was a real bonus and the toys and wide range of books were great and kept the kids occupied for hours! The kitchen was also surprisingly well stocked, with everything necessary for a week's holiday. The garden has plenty of space for kids to run around and would have been perfect if attached directly to the cottage.

All in all we found it a very well presented and maintained cottage in an excellent location, with plenty space for a family of four. We would certainly recommend.

“A cosy house just perfect for us”

We stayed in this lovely cottage for a second time last year. Its like a little 'home from home' when we visit the area. Its small, but the layout is perfect and the place has a really relaxing feel about it from the moment you walk in. The shower is powerful and warm, the beds were comfy and we all slept well. The garden is opposite the front door, which would be amazing in warmer weather. Its a short walk to Upwey Station where we caught a train into Weymouth which was great fun. The drive to Upwey was also much easier now the new bypass is open, much less traffic. Took us under 21/2 hours from north London. We would recommend this cottage and can't wait to stay again!

“Not bad”

Cottage was clean, tidy and well equipped. However some of the furniture, double bed and sofas were not at all comfortable. The garden is not connected to the cottage, you have to cross a small road/parking space to reach it - which is not very practical with a dog. Sadly this is not made clear in the website. The bathroom was small and damp, very uninviting. The ktichen window does look out over a beautiful view but the front direction is very built up. Although the lovely Dorest countryside is not too far away as long as you are driving.
So overall disappointing.

Management Response

The cottage has all new beds and mattresses. The garden is across through from the parking space, which is conveniently located next to the cottage. The bathroom is not damp and is newly painted. We are sorry that the reviewer did not enjoy their stay as much as our other guests this year.
