I stayed for 4 nights on a short break in Alicante. I was disappointed with the Melia experience for a number of reasons. Whilst the hotel room was clean and comfortable, I was given a twin room (as a solo traveller) which was disappointing as I had booked a double room. I didn't pay nearly £500 to sleep in a single bed for 4 nights. Unfortunately the reception staff didn't feel it was necessary to give me a different double room 'just for one' as they phrased it. Shame.
There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the hotel room which is standard in almost all international hotels so not sure why this is missing here.
I brought my own drinks (water, iced tea) and left these in the room but they were taken away by the cleaning staff the first day, so I had to hide anything else I bought in my suitcase- perhaps a ploy to ensure you spend in the bar?
The TV didn't work in my room, and they promised to send someone to fix it but this didn't happen. No possibility of a room change according to reception.
Had to ask for towels for the pool and used a card system for this, which was fine, apart from they tried to charge me for the missing card at check out (even when I had handed it over 5minutes before).
I was mostly ignored at breakfast, having to ask for tea/coffee, when other diners had this offered as soon at they sat down. Not sure if it was because I was travelling solo.
There was a lot of noise at night- the terrace doors aren't soundproof so with a room above the marina you can hear all the street noise. Also many other guests didn't seem to think about making noise late a night but that's not the hotel's fault.
Finally when I booked (direct with the hotel) I was given a 10 EUR per day credit to spend on room service or the bar but they didn't honour this, they said the offer had finished.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

its realy noisy hotel. You hear everything what is happening in other rooms and in the corridor. most annoying thing is that noone takes care of what you ask. you can hang up the sign "please make my room" early in the morning and late after midday you realise that it is still hanging there.

We stayed for a week in a 'premium room' overlooking the harbour with a small balcony. The room was excellent, quiet and with a very pleasant outlook. The breakfast buffet, in an extensive and largely glazed room overlooking the sea and beach, was first rate with a very wide range of choices. The staff were all helpful and friendly. Our only problem was that on our first night we found the mattresses rather hard and arranged for these to be changed for somewhat softer tops.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the harbour get the sun in the afternoon and evening. If tea and coffee making sets are not in the room request these.

Melia is centrally located and some balconies are overlooking into the bay and another side into Marina and city.(I recommend this side-more to see sitting on balcony. There is higher standard called The Level for those who wish more luxury. The Level has separate lounge for breakfast and drinks , small swimming pool and it is suggested that The Level suites are more luxury. Maybe yes, but we asked to be moved into non Level suite which was overlooking Marina and we found it's planning more clever. (In real the Level suite balconies were very small and sides were closed by brick walls). Anyway it is just subjective opinion. We are grateful for Alejandro from The Level lounge who was very helpful and moved us. In any case rooms decoration was perfect ,just carpets in corridors could be renovated...We have not understood- why there should be a number of international TV channels as written on the list ,but only Spanish in reality!. Anyway we had a pleasant stay there and we recommend to choose this hotel for visitors to Alicante.

Room Tip: Choose top possible floor Marina side

I don't think there are many hotels in the world which look out onto the length of a nice sandy beach, but this hotel does. The hotels location is virtually on the beach, with the old town and restaurants a 5-10 minute walk away.

The central market (Mercardo) is a 20 minute walk away, this is the closest place to pick up the tram line to the Central station or to Benidorm. The tram isn't the fastest method of transport but I was surprised how cheap it was.

The castle is a 10 min walk away. You can get the lift up, which is what I would recommend halfway down the promenade by the beach. There are some very good views at the top.

The bus from the airport (C6) is cheap in price and stops virtually outside the hotel.

Alicante is a lovely town, very Spanish in its feel, with some nice places to visit, totally different to Benidorm. Mind you, you have to experience Benidorm for a day trip.

I recently stayed here for a week on the level, and enjoyed the benefits of having free beer, soft drinks and wine throughout the day if I so required them. Breakfast and tapas were served at certain times during the day. The view from the levels Breakfast area was straight out onto the beach/sea.

Make sure you ask for a sea view, there is nothing better than waking up and looking out of the window onto the sea, and the sunlight coming up on the horizon. The view out to the sea side of the hotel gets the sun until around 1pm.

Hint for the hotel - I would of liked to have seen a little tag on the tapas at lunchtime and in the evening Tapas what each bit of Tapas was.

Room Tip: Sea view room on the level.
