The drive up to the house is lovely and the building and surroundings very impressive.
We were greeted by Gemma on reception. She was very welcoming, informative and friendly, just what you hope for in your first contact.
Our room was in fact a suite. It was very spacious, comfortable and clean.
Breakfast consisted of a good selection of hot and cold. Staff were attentive and keen to know that everything was to our satisfaction.
We had a walk through some of the public rooms, all of which are beautifully furnished and very well maintained.
We very much enjoyed our stay and look forward to going back.

Room Tip: Room 107 is lovely

We thank you for taking the time to post comments on TripAdvisor.

Over many years we have responded with personal consideration to each and every set of guest comments, however reflecting where the world of Hospitality is today, we now feel there is more relevance in providing a general response to each review. As and when blockchain technology allows hotels to verify that all published reviews are fully legitimate, we may be able to justify allocating our own resources again, to responding to individual reviews.

Dear Readers, our gratitude to everyone who has made a positive online contribution. We mention in passing that we are recipients of TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence for all 3 of our review pages, Balbirnie House the hotel, The Orangery (with #BalbirnieDeluxe) and our Balbirnie Bistro. It is lovely to know that the hard work of the 110 individuals who form our brigade, receives recognition which is so consistently great from our customers.

For all daily updates and photographs, competitions and offers, please do head on over and join our Balbirnie House Hotel Facebook page, we have more than 15,000 individuals who now receive Balbirnie’s Daily Updates. This is now very much an accumulating historical archive of information, a celebration of life in and around Balbirnie. Our gratitude as always.

Twitter is now also very much an integral part of what we do, We operate numerous Twitter feeds, the main listing is @BalbirnieHouse - talking daily about what goes into the complexity of our operations, as well as the generalities of how wonderful it is to work within the hotel sector. Please do join us.

Additionally, Balbirnie’s social media also focusses on the ongoing labour of love, a never-ending program of re-investment back into the fabric of the assets, maintaining and improving the future of our Grade A Listed 1777 National Treasure. Over recent years we’ve seen investment annually prioritised and maintained in a range between double and verging quadruple that of industry norms for the hotel sector, which explains why Balbirnie is currently looking at her best in history. Long may that continue, our ability to maintain such expenditure really is the living of a hotelier's dream.

We got married in Balbirnie House on Saturday 22nd July 2017 and we can not fault the service at all. From our initial meeting with Nicolas, to planning the big day with the amazing wedding team, Leah, Christine and our fantastic wedding planner Gaynor. Anytime these ladies were there to answer any questions and emails no matter how small and we were always made to feel like our wedding was so important to them. They all helped to ensure our day was planned perfectly and was exactly how we had visioned it right through from the start until the day nothing was too much to ask.

On the day itself Erdal was our Master of Ceremonies, we can not thank and commend him enough for our wedding day. He kept everything running smoothly and spent time before our wedding, hearing about how we wanted the day to go and he ensured this was carried out to the very last detail. All of our guests have commented on how fantastic Erdal was on the day and we couldn't have wished for anyone else to run our day.

Our guests have all commented on how fantastic the food was and that their experience as a wedding guest was they were also being treated like 'royalty', all staff involved in our day were professional and provided excellent service.

It's so hard to put into words how fantastic the Balbirnie team have been and how perfect our day was, we are forever thankful and grateful for all your hard work to make sure our day was amazing.

Thank you so much,
Karly & Marcus xx

I took my husband for a special birthday dinner at the Orangery last Sunday. Balbirnie Hotel is beautiful and the Orangery is a lovely restaurant. However, neither the service nor the food were up to the location. We decided to go for the set menu which at two courses for about £20 would appear to be good value. The main course and dessert option appealed to us both but our mains took so long to arrive that we were very grateful for the tasty bread we had been given initially. My husband's beef cheek and my chicken and chorizo main courses were tasty. My posset dessert was tangy but could have done without the sponge on top. My poor husband came off worse. His vacherin had little flavour and included a hard, white meringue, which was obviously not what he had expected in a hotel of this calibre! I did not discover until we returned home that the bill was incorrect and we had not been charged at the set menu rate. The difference in price was only pence but that was the final straw. The young staff were efficient and the waiter did apologise for the delay with our mains. Nevertheless, we both had high expectations, which were not met on this occasion.

We got married at Balbirnie at the start of August and we cannot fault them at all! Every single member of staff made all of our guests feel so welcome. Our day was magical from start to finish and just the perfect day. We must give a special thanks to Christine, Erdal and Kerrie who went above and beyond and ensured our day went without a single glitch - nothing is ever too much for the staff here! All our guests have commented on how friendly the staff are, stunning the venue is and how delicious the food was...we couldn't have asked for more! Thank you for helping us create the perfect Lynsey & Michael x

Met up with friends for a catch up over a very relaxed lunch in the informal bistro. Food was good as was the unobtrusive service. Would recommend for a surprisingly inexpensive lunch. We were able to explore the beautiful grounds afterwards in the summer sunshine.
