Booked our wedding here, and cannot wait. They have been so accommodating, welcoming and helpful with us. The building is incredible and the staff are truly brilliant. Out of all of the places we viewed the staff were the most professional, courteous and charming. The rooms are of the highest quality and are well suited to such a grand building.

Bring on May 2020!

Attended a Christmas Party Night here at Balbirnie, lovely champagne reception. The food was of a high standard. The decor and service were excellent and fabulous ambience. DJ played a wide variety of music the suited a wide age range. Would recommend Balbirnie for a Christmas Party Night.

We thank you for taking the time to post comments on TripAdvisor.

Over many years we have responded with personal consideration to each and every set of guest comments, however reflecting where the world of Hospitality is today, we now feel there is more relevance in providing a general response to each review. As and when blockchain technology allows hotels to verify that all published reviews are fully legitimate, we may be able to justify allocating our own resources again, to responding to individual reviews.

Dear Readers, our gratitude to everyone who has made a positive online contribution. We mention in passing that we are recipients of TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence for all 3 of our review pages, Balbirnie House the hotel, The Orangery (with #BalbirnieDeluxe) and our Balbirnie Bistro. It is lovely to know that the hard work of the 110 individuals who form our brigade, receives recognition which is so consistently great from our customers.

For all daily updates and photographs, competitions and offers, please do head on over and join our Balbirnie House Hotel Facebook page, we have more than 15,000 individuals who now receive Balbirnie’s Daily Updates. This is now very much an accumulating historical archive of information, a celebration of life in and around Balbirnie. Our gratitude as always.

Twitter is now also very much an integral part of what we do, We operate numerous Twitter feeds, the main listing is @BalbirnieHouse - talking daily about what goes into the complexity of our operations, as well as the generalities of how wonderful it is to work within the hotel sector. Please do join us.

Additionally, Balbirnie’s social media also focusses on the ongoing labour of love, a never-ending program of re-investment back into the fabric of the assets, maintaining and improving the future of our Grade A Listed 1777 National Treasure. Over recent years we’ve seen investment annually prioritised and maintained in a range between double and verging quadruple that of industry norms for the hotel sector, which explains why Balbirnie is currently looking at her best in history. Long may that continue, our ability to maintain such expenditure really is the living of a hotelier's dream.

We were at Balbirnie House for a wedding, that’s where the fun will always start.

It’s a stunning building, the interior is just a maze of rooms and superb decor, the lavish seating, open fires are just what’s needed on a cold evening.

Drink prices are not that expensive, fairly cheap compared to other places in the same league.

The food was lovely too, and the staff warm and friendly as you’d expect, and more than helpful with our daft questions!

Although the only downside is the copy paste reply they use on here, pity really. That could be a stand out point rather than use the “everyone else does it” Line...!

Because the hotel had lost our booking, we had to wait in the library until it was sorted. It would have been a generous gesture not to charge us for the drinks we ordered while waiting! We were subsequently upgraded to a lovely room, which was the best thing about the hotel.

We had stayed here twice - many years ago! - and had memories of wonderful food and service. What a let down! The service was fine, but the food mediocre.
I returned my dessert on the first night. The food on the second night was no better. It is possible that since our stay was on a Monday and Tuesday, there was only a skeleton staff in the kitchen, but I can cook better food at home! The breakfasts were not as good as those in a Premier Inn, and no vegetarian options offered.

I would neither return nor recommend the Balbirnie to anyone - find your nearest Premier Inn with adjacent restaurant, and stay there!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are good.

Dear Readers, in early 2017 Balbirnie became the first destination country house hotel in Scotland, to move away from a multiple course fixed price evening offering, into a totally approachable, individually-price range of dishes, centred on bistro, bistronomie, brasserie, etc.
Sorry to hear the reviewer below didn't find to anticipation, we can however point to online and in-house guest ratings at consistently mid 90%. For sure in Hospitality, and despite all best endeavours, we'll never please every single guest all of the time, especially if they are looking for something we don't provide ...
