One of the few shrine/temple experiences that are part of a large park complex. Most others are set amongst large buildings in the busy city. Also has the horse stables and archery complex to the north. Japanese archery definitely worth a look. I went on a Sunday afternoon and a wedding was held there - great cultural experience that only added to the shrine visit!

On our first day in japan we walked into Yoyogi park and came to Meiji shrine where there were a few wedding ceremonies taking place as it was a Saturday , lovely feel about the place calming well worth a visit .

It's always so crazy how on one size of Harakuju station, you have the craziness of Takeshita St, then on the other side you have the Shrine area that makes you feel like you're in the middle of the woods! It's a nice walk, and generally it's a great place to visit, although a few sections were closed due to renovations.

The uphill road and trees on both sides are impressive. The temple itself is average. Anyway it is not very special.

There is a garden with 500 yen entrance fee. You can safely skip it if you don't have time and want to save money. I don't even mind skipping the whole thing especially if you plan to visit temples in Kyoto.
