Shinjuku Granbell Hotel
Ranked #12 of 84 Hotels / Ryokan in Shinjuku
Reviewed 15 October 2017

We stayed in the Villa Suite for 3 days. It has a gorgeous outdoor shower, huge bed, very spacious, and well worth the price! Location is good. It's a short walk through some tiny streets, but then you are right in the heart of Shinjuku. Club lounge was small, but a nice area if you are looking to kill some time with snacks and a view. Staff did a fantastic job of cleaning the room and offering assistance if needed.

My only real complaint is about the checkout time. Checkout time was 12:00pm, but DO NOT TRUST CHECKOUT TIME!!! The day of checkout we were packing the last of our things around 11am (about an hour before checkout). We had the "Do not disturb" sign on our door to make sure that housekeeping didn't come in while we were still packing. A little after 11am someone used a key card to enter our room. He saw us in the room, and looked a little confused, and then left. Not sure why this man entered our room. We even talked to staff earlier in the morning to confirm the checkout time, so they knew we were still in the room. Either way, it made us very uneasy that someone would enter our room, before our checkout time, with our Do Not Disturb sign on the door.

Had it not been for the rude way in which we left the hotel, I would have given it 5 out of 5.

Room Tip: Upgrade your suite! The views and perks are totally worth it!!

The room was by far the biggest and best we stayed in during 5 weeks travelling Japan. We also got breakfast included and free soft drinks in the room bar as well as access to the lounge. The price usd160 was cheaper than a lot of other hotels we stayed and which had much smaller rooms .Bed comfortable.. bathroom huge and nice. The restaurant on the other hand has a cafeteria feel to it and no class. Dinner was expensive and poor. Breakfast was average but someone should show them how to cook scrambled eggs. Not really that close to metro stops. The area is full of bars and restaurants but not much else.To be honest i prefer the Asakusa area better. The room was great ( not the standard room) but the rest of the hotel is just average.

The rooms are so small you felt like you were staying on a boat! The hotel is extremely busy but very convenient for the metro and some nice restaurants nearby! We paid 1300 yen each for breakfast and it definitely wasn't worth it, if it isn't included in your room go outside as it is mainly catering for the Chinese market very little western options. All in all average hotel, good location.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are tiny - if space is an issue go for something bigger

This hotel is great. We did however upgrade to the Club Level rooms which are much more spacious and include more as a result. The room location and views were great and the proximity to the roof top lounge was perfect. The room was spacious, with upgraded bath amenities. We were in the center of Shinjuku which is a great area to be in as a tourist however quite far from city center Tokyo. We loved everything about our hotel for the short stay we had in Tokyo.

Room Tip: Upgrade to club level rooms to get the best location.

With three of us we ordered the triple room with mezzanine, which worked well. This place is 3 minutes from Golden Gai, the Ninja museum, Robot Restaurant etc. and about 7 minutes from Shinjinku Station on the east side. It is surrounded by activity, but it’s very quiet and comfortable. The cafe near reception has brilliant espresso take away as well as sit in. The bar has great views, but no real vibe. The restaurant is really reasonable for breakfast with a range of US, European and Asiatic choices. Coffee is filtered stuff which is strong but not nearly as good as the espresso! Bathrooms are well appointed. Like all Japanese rooms, squeezing suitcases in can be a challenge! Highly recommended.
