Stayed here for two nights as part of a two week Scottish road trip. Despite rainy weather when we arrived and left (but not on our full day there) this was our favourite place. Scott and Steph are fantastic hosts, the food is superb (better than Michelin star restaurants I have visited for half the price) and location beautiful – though remote! I Our dogs were welcomed - except by the big herd of deer that live neat the hotel! Next time we’ll stay for longer!

In midst of all the mayhem Steph and scott provided an excellent break. For the foreseeable future the restaurant is only open to residents (and the herd of deer that frequent the area around the restaurant) this means guests are very well taken care of. Dinner was (again) excellent, ambiance was relaxed. Breakfast was delicious particularly the porridge with honey and drambuie (and the impromptu breakfast whisky tasting session). While Covid restrictions did change slightly what one might normally expect, the owners ensured that it was still a five star experience. A highly recommended venue for a relaxing break.
We have been here 4 times now and each time the food has been simply outstanding. Not just one or two good courses but every course a gem every single time. And you get a lot of courses for the fixed price menu. The owners Scott and Steff are a great combination. Scott runs front-of-house and epitomises service with a personal touch. Steff is the chef, rather shy and retiring but what a talent! The rooms are small but well equipped. Not cheap but worth every penny, and then some.
Arrived on Saturday morning off the Caledonian Sleeper, to be welcomed at the station by Scott, for the short walk for the hotel. Breakfast was a hint of things to come, and then off for a walk in the snow.
Scott and Steph are excellent hosts, and the 4 of us must have cleaned ever plate put in front of us (and there were several over the 3 days). Washed down with excellent wine, and followed by several of a wide choice of whiskies - I think I managed 6 out of the 100+
No Wi-fi, TV, but I did get enough 4G to get the football results!
Cannot recommend this place highly enough, and if coming from down south, definitely worth paying the extra to arrive and leave on the sleeper.
We visited this wonderful place on the last night of our recent holiday to the area. It was an exceptional evening. Warmly welcomed at the door, we enjoyed every minute of the intimate and top drawer dining experience. The food was outstanding, the service attentive and genuine. We will return at a time of year when we can appreciate the views as well. I recommend without hesitation
Set in a magnificent, supremely lonely location in one of Europe's last wildernesses, this glorious little boutique hotel can be reached by sleeper train from Euston. Scott and Steph (and sweet Viktoria) were incredibly attentive, welcoming hosts who took so much trouble to make us feel comfortable. We had the corner room looking two ways over the moor (with views of the deer who come up to the hotel for their treat every afternoon), which was surprisingly large, decorated in immaculate taste and full of lovely touches like the high bed (for views of the moor) and the little flask of whisky and home-made truffles. We roamed the hills by day and returned to toast ourselves by the wood stove and sample the vast range of whisky and gin before dinner.
The food was quite exceptional in quality and presentation, using locally sourced ingredients in imaginative ways. Portions were sensibly modest, so after 3 courses and a number of extras (including cheeseboard) one feels full but not overstuffed.
In all ways a very special experience, although not cheap. We would love to return for a special treat.
